I am getting my Chartered Manager title from CMI not Rushmore..

Well, you said that Unaccredited does not mean fraud. CMI now accredits Rushmore, do you accept that they are now offering accredited degrees?

    Pretty entertaining anyway..

Finally an argument that I'm not involved in.

    There's still time.

There is of course a difference between institutional accreditation and programmatic accreditation.

The main issue here is Rushmore's reputation. Linking with CMI unfortunately will not help that as well as having institutional accreditation would.

What does CMI stand for? Does CMI have recognition from the United States Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation?

Chartered Management Institute. Not sure of their U.S. recognition.

As an aside, it's interesting how a number of these outfits seek out some kind workaround accreditation from a European organization.

Check it out - Governance - CMI

Its a Royal Chartered Body in the UK with the authority to issue accreditation and certifications

A "registered charity?" Really? REALLY? Here a story about some other "registered charities."

Rethink giving to athlete charities - ESPN

There's probably any number of stories about legally registered charities that are, in fact, just scams. Now, do I know anything about CMI being a charity scam? No I do not. My point is just to say that pointing to an organization and saying it's a "registered charity" is not necessarily going to give much weight to your argument. I could set up a legal charity tomorrow, collect millions in donations, put 99% in my own pocket, give 1% to whatever the charity is supposed to benefit and still be legal.

Sorry, I had to post because I ran out of popcorn.

Technically, the CMI approves/accredits courses or programs conducted by study centers, leading to their own CMI awards. To my knowledge, the CMI do not have the authority under the Royal Charter to accredit awards of other institutions. The UK Royal Charter grants special recognition of their own awards only.

Just so you know, it appears that Rushmore University is still alive and well. They appear to have a solid doctoral level rubber band research program that has culminated in an amazing rubber band and metal pipe, with real swivel bearing action! It's not just a rubber band though, it comes with extra biomedical for all of your biomedical needs!! Westside has nothing on Rushmore, they're bio'riffic!

This thing has been around for a very long time. Never accredited, always on the move. The non-800 number is an Illinois area code. It offers the doctorate, gives no information about curriculum for it, and makes no distinction between the PhD and the DBA. Just contact the Dean to work it out.

No accreditation and no statement about, just hints about the powers-that-be wanting to retain the status quo.

Has a “faculty” page, but doesn’t tell you who any of them are.

This thing is all about awarding doctoral degrees. There are two prices: $13K for the “Rushmore” doctorate and $15K for the “Rushmore/CMI doctorate. “CMI” is the Chartered Management Institute. This partnership is meaningless in terms of the degree awarded. Rushmore says you can pursue a CMI certification, but anyone can do that. It does NOT appear that a Rushmore doctorate automatically results in a CMI certification. I’m sure there’s more to this, but it is hard to care.

Rich, thank you for the very informative post and summary of their operation. Would just like to point out, that while all that I stated in the proceeding sentence is true... you never once discussed the importance of rubber band research. Clearly the powers-that-be are so against this important research, that Rushmore's biomedical engineering faculty can not even be publicly listed! This is an outrage.

Finest statement I've ever read on the subject of Rushmore. My take: A Rushmore degree, with no USDoE or CHEA-recognized accreditation, has a rubber band's propensity to snap back and possibly sting you in the posterior. Depending on the laws where you live, and what use you try to make of your Rushmore -um, credential, the sting could be quite intense.

I just received some spam from "Jaquish Biomedical." The guy, John Jaquish, is offering some bodybuilding X3 something-or-other. Anyway, the spam email referred to him as "Dr. Jaquish," so I decided to look him up in LinkedIn. You got it, a PhD in "Biomedical Engineering Research" from....wait for it....Rushmore! He also claims an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Needless to say, Rushmore doesn't offer this degree. Well, to be fair, they don't have this degree program. They clearly offer the degree (without the degree program); he's got one!

Rushmore is one of those few unaccredited things that got a dot-edu extension before the powers-that-be clamped down on that.

That's what my reference was about regarding the rubber bands and biomedical awesomeness! Hyperlink was in the post. I had to laugh when on a Spartan fitness board, I come across something that sounds ridiculous... sent me down an internet rabbit hole of curiosity... and eventually leads me back here! Bonus points for anyone who recognizes the Westside reference.
