I was bursting with school pride when Salve Regina was sung at Mass on Tuesday PM.

John: Me, too -- as a school name. What if they opened an office in one of the odder city names, Corpus Christi?

As for the "FU" schools . . . brings to mind the occasional college prank where four people, with big-letter sweatshirts from Fordham, Union, Chicago, and Kansas walk down the street side by side. I believe from time to time they are actually arrested for so doing.

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do. Good thing Capella doesn't require auditions, although I sing tenor...10 or 12 miles away :)

I wonder if you could put "University of Maryland at Adelphi?" Other top schols that sounds weird are.

    Duquesne University?
    Syracuse University?

    Not top, but...

    Argosy University

I heard different people pronounce differently!!!

OOOooo! I almost went to Duquesne! I love that French name (but Pittsburg not so much)

Not a school name, but an Olympia, WA area school had beavers as the mascot. So their nemesis (I guess) spray painted "LICK THE BEAVS" in huge letters on a railroad overpass. Bloody hilarious.

Aw, but I had so hoped to enter their Queer Studies MA. Well now I'm just disappointed. :D

I hate to admit it, but I'm not fond of Excelsior's name. It sounds like a mystical sword or something. :)

Full Sail. Some of their programs look good, but I just can't take it seriously.

Argosy. Merger of totally normal-sounding schools, so maybe they wanted something different. (Argosy means a fleet of ships, so it's fitting).

Ball State. Seriously. Balls. By which I mean their excellent athletics program of course.

I'm not a fan of the names Amridge University or TUI University.

Looking through this thread, I am reminded that name changes aren't always for the better.

    Tui

As long as the university is regionally accredited, the name means nothing to me!

Neither is Deganawidah Quetzalcoatl University. As I recall, it used to occupy a surplus military radio-station facility a few miles south of Davis California. It eventually lost its accreditation and closed.

(Everybody called it 'DQU'. It seemed to me that with a school like that, if you couldn't pronounce its name, then you probably weren't the kind of student that they were looking for.)

It would be a very good thing if Mercy was brought together with Paine.

What did Deganawidah Quetzalcoatl University do? Train priests for the Aztec religion? :D

    Worst name?

How about Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU): ? Somewhat a bizarre university name and a real mouth-full... (No offense intended to the Catholic, private university system).

Attractive building … At least the [locals] have shortened the name to “The Lake”. As I earlier mentioned … OLLU is still a mouthful and IMO believe a little strange in name; but to each their own...
