“...however it may deserve respect for its usefulness and antiquity, [predicting the end of the world] has not been found agreeable to experience.” — Edward Gibbon, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

I really wish that purportedly Christian groups would quit trying to predict the end of the world. The Bible itself says that no man knows the day or the hour of Christ's return.

Maybe the world did end on those days, and was recreated as it currently is, including every one of us being created with false memories already planted.

Except... no... there must have been at least a few errors in the re-creation of the universe. I DISTINCTLY remember that it was spelled "Berenstein Bears"!!!!!

Or . . . maybe you have watched The Matrix a few too many times. In any case, you can be sure that the doomsday predictors will be retuning their sliderules and they'll be back soon with another end-of-the-world prediction. I can't wait.

Does mooning a Moderator constitute sexual harassment in the workplace?

I used to live in a small isolated Eastern New Mexico town...it wasn't the end of the world but we could see the end from there...

Having lived in the desert southwest (Tucson) and driven through your former area many times on my way to visit family in the Midwest, you're right, Eastern N.M. is pretty close to the end of the world---also kind of beautiful, though, in its own way.

Back in the 80s, I lived in a town of 3,000 in the middle of Nevada that was primarily known for being in the middle of hundreds of square miles of munitions stored underground in bunkers. They say at one time it was on the Soviet Union's top 10 hit list. Had the Cold War turned hot, I'd have had front stage for the end of the world.

Too bad it's a proper noun so it can't be a Scrabble word....
