Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Wes, seek help.

I can see I lost you somewhere along the way (I did try to put the matter in context). I never said (nor did I intend to foist a fallacy upon you) that you stated that ACCS officially or unconditionally accepted you. On the contrary, I believe I was quite clear you had reservations and believed your admission was contingent on other factors.

My question related back to your original post the gist of which (as you have agreed) was that you believed Wes was reporting his credentials accurately. If that is your contention, then either you believe that ACCS had officially accepted him (once again, based solely on an initial telephone call), or you believe that it is ethical and accurate to publicly present credentials prior to their being officially sanctioned. On what else could you base your opinion that Wes was being accurate? Mind you, it was not your contention that Wes thought he was being accurate, but that you thought he was.

P.S. The thread where all of this originally transpired also happens to be the one where North relayed his, quite different, admission experience, and can be found here.

Are we still doing this? well, OK.

I DEMAND you give me the quote from that thread byNorth that says his enrollment procedure was much different than mine. Please ??????? EVERYONE watch now, Here comes Gus' quote. ah one, ah two, ah three, and ,take it away Gus:D :D :D

Don't want to talk Biblical theology, huh?

    You are absolutely correct Bill.

Gus is distorting ACCS issues to meet his need to get Wes. I have not followed this whole thread and am staying out of that fight.

I know of an APA approved Psych PhD program at a state university where those who applied (two women) were able to enrol and begin taking PhD courses with the understanding that if they were not accepted then they were out of luck. They expected to be admitted. So ACCS (as has been repeatedly pointed out) did not do something all that unusual. Gus can keep ignoring that because it suits his purpose.

    OK, I looked.

I saw a post about liberal Lutheran antics (kill the pastor and so forth) in the Mo Synod, but I didn't see the reference. Don't care much, truth to tell. I used to watch Marlin Perkins when I was a kid. Here we are in the wild kingdom. Makes me feel young. No, not really.

Oh, it's you, North. T'anks God. For a bleary minute I thought it was the guy Perkins used to send into the river to mate with alligators. I just hate it when people tell me to look at stuff that isn't there. Makes me think I'm losing it completely.

First you commend the level of civil discourse, then this?

I know you getting on in years, Bill, but I didn't think you needed information to be to be spoon fed to you, yet. ;) The post from North is dated 05-10-2002, and located in the thread to which I provided you a link.
    Oh, well. Here it is.

I find that hard to believe. I’m sure ACCS has a more discriminating process and want to see transcripts and other qualifications of applicants to their doctoral programs. What do you think? Wes has now changed his sig file from possessing a doctorate from ACCS to being an enrolled student there; I’m willing to bet, however, that at the present time, he is neither.

I cannot comment on Wes' ACCS situation. However, what you say is true in that acceptance is not automatic. Yes, they do require original transcripts mailed from the schools attended. The other issue with ACCS is that in my experience they do not move quickly and require persistence.

      North
So there you have it. An alumnus agreeing with me and clearly stating that in his experience acceptance was NOT automatic; transcripts were required. Moreover, in his experience, ACCS did not move quickly at all. Obviously something has changed.

As a matter of policy I never discuss politics or religion. Not that I can’t, mind you, I just don’t. For example, I could tell you whether or not harpagmon in Phil 2:6 evinces essential role subordination in trinal relations, and why. But then, I would have to kill you. :D :D :D

Gus has lots of experience applying to quality schools. I just can't seem to place their names. As a matter of fact, nor can Gus.

    I love you guys.

I realize why you are doing this Gus, at least I think I do. You are protecting the people who are possibly in the same situation from making a mistake based on one person's opinion. Still, even though a Nat'l accredited institution is technically an ethical violation of this person's organizational bylaws, this thread has become a spectacle in itself. The point has been made, and anyone doing searches will likely read from the beginning to the end. Let's drop this thread.

For everyone else, please reread through this thread and then decide if you would like to continue it.

    Pleadingly (LOL),

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Wait! DWCox, don't go! This is important!

Nothing Gus has stated can be verified. Certainly his conversation with Ms. Miller is no more verifible then my conversation. At least I had the guts to post my email communication with Ms. Miller -- which Gus confirmed and of course reported that I was wrong.

Gus has nothing to lose in our debate. I on the other must be accountable and according to Gus, I have much to lose.

Gus, does a great job of misrepresenting the truth and then does an even better job of distorting his own misrepresentations. He's doing the same thing to Bill, and North.

However Rich, accountability is only a factor for you when it plays into your hand, right?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Wes, seek help.

Thank you for answering my question, albeit in an extremely circuitous manner. You are undeservedly ascribing to me ill intentions. I am not trying to catch you in anything. You made a statement some time ago, and it appears that only now, after my questioning, you have given thought to its full ramifications.

My interest is purely academic. We have seen many times before individuals being taken to task for the listing of credentials (even, or especially, those in progress), and the questions arise frequently. For example, when is it proper to list oneself as ABD or Candidate?

I am curious, in your rationalization, how do you define “doing a class?” In the situation in question, no materials had been received, and tuition had been paid only a few scant hours before. Moreover, how do you know the class was part of the ACCS doctoral program? What if it was a bridge class or a prerequisite? Without the official evaluation of transcripts it could even have been a duplicate class, or one satisfied by a similar class. As duplication of credits is typically not permitted, then technically the class wouldn’t be part of the doctoral program, would it?

Has anyone had the experience where something in a school catalog later turn out to have either changed or the school interprets it in a way quite different than you thought? Especially when it comes to transfers, prerequisites, etc.? How can you decide that you are “in progress” if the Director of Admissions hasn’t made that determination? Why not make the determination that (based on life experience) you have completed all degree requirements? ;)

If I take a class at the Harvard University extension, a class that has the same course title (and will therefore transfer) as one that happens to be in the M.D. program, and then send in my application, prior to any official notification, would it be proper to say I am a Harvard Medical School student? :D :D :D

I don’t have a problem with someone claiming to be a student at a school based on solely on class enrollment, but claiming a doctoral degree in progress on that basis I believe is a stretch, and an unethical one at that.

Gus, just thought I'd reveal another person with a similiar ACCS admission experience.

"I spoke with a representative at ACCS today and I may enroll Monday. I have been shuffling between a few schools, one of the others being Luther Rice. However, LRS's program requires a practicum and I do not know how that would work with my full-time church duties. I have also looked at an on campus program at Mid-America Baptist Seminary (an RA as well as ATS school), but it is a four day a week program, no intensives. I cannot be away four days a week.

As for Luther Rice, I can never reach anyone by phone to ask questions. So I probably go with ACCS. "

Tony: be very quiet and watch the ol' Carpathian peasant. Quietly, quietly, open your bag of nuts. Throw them, one at a time, in the direction you want the squirrels to go. Quietly, quietly, follow and throw, follow and throw. Herding squirrels is an ancient Carpathian art.
Sshh. I know it's a waste of time, but lookit 'em go.

Gus, you seem to lose everyone that you debate with? You are just good, NO GREAT at making a conversation work for you. It really doesn't matter what others hear or intrepret, does it?
