No I did not, Dave. I used several analogies for the sake of referencing the fact that one may believe something that simply isn't so. I may be convinced in my own mind that my PhD was earned from an institution on a planet outside the Milky Way. That doesn't make it true. Nor does it make the person who would question my belief bigoted, full of hate, or discriminatory.

What word games? It's bigotry and prejudice whether you think it is or not. My son looks completely male, but this legislation would force him to use the women's room. This would expose him to people questioning his right to do so, and might well incite some people to become abusive or violent.

I guess by won't work you mean you will continue to consider yourself reasonable and tolerant. I expected nothing else.

The belief that he should be discriminated in public accommodations that makes it discriminatory. The assumption that you know better than the people living the reality or the professionals that care for them makes it prejudicial. The lack of compassion for the real problem of suicide and the real threats to life and limb transgender people face everyday makes it hateful.

Why is it so hard to understand that a transgender man would be humiliated and risk being attacked or having the police called on him if he uses the women's restroom? Have you ever seen a transgender man?

Thank you. They aren't having delusions.

We'll have to agree to disagree, Dave. I completely disagree with your assessment.

This is absurd is it not? I'm going to start telling people I'm paralyzed and if they do not afford me every accommodation I'll scream bigotry!

This is the core of the argument, yes! I have the right to identify with "whatever" I wish, and anyone/everyone who doesn't accept it is a bigot, filled with hate and discriminatory in their position.

What restroom should a person use if he/she self-identifies as a lesbian trapped in a man's body?

That's not how it works. People usually have to be psychologically evaluated and start going through the change process (hormones) before they can officially switch their gender. Here in Texas, which is not a very liberal place, correctional agencies will put you in the facility of the gender you identify with once you've completed the change. There was a Supreme Court case where a correctional agency refused to separate a transgender inmate from general population. She was brutally beaten and raped on a regular basis and contracted HIV. Guess who lost that case.

Neither one is transgender and they should be prosecuted.

Bullshit. We’re not talking about sexual orientation or preference, but about actual gender. If that’s not determined by plumbing and chromosomes, then by what? (Don’t bother answering. It was a rhetorical question.)

I've held off on commenting on this thread thus far, even though I think it's had some extremely funny moments.

As for davewill, can you say d-e-n-i-a-l?

As best as I can determine, especially since Dave has avoided a direct answer, his kid was born female and now identifies as male. Well, guess what: If I’m correct on my assumption, his kid is his daughter. They should both get over it, and his daughter should be encouraged to accept herself. Am I being a cruel bigot? Hardly - just offering a reality check.

The best comment I’ve seen on this issue, in general, is to the extent that someone who has a dick and tits is a guy on hormones, and someone who doesn’t have a schlong is female regardless of breast size.

In the old days, a transsexual was defined as someone who went on hormones, had lots of counseling, then had reconstructive surgery to add or subtract one’s dinglehoffer. Today, all you have to do is put on a dress and call yourself a woman, and you qualify as a woman? Nonsense. Bruce Jenner can call himself whatever he chooses, but until he gets his thingey lopped off, he’s just a dude with hormone-created boobs. And even if he does eventually go the distance (which he might, since he obviously craves publicity), he will never be organically female – just a former dude hopped up on estrogen.

Reminder for any newbies who don’t know me: I’ve been out of the closet since before many of you were born. I support most of the principles of the LGBT community, but have always thought of the whole transsexual thingey as mutilation, especially when taken to the point of surgical alteration. It’s one thing to say that you’re gay, but quite another to say, “Hey, God, you screwed up by making me the wrong gender.”

Now, on a more humorous note, I occasionally find myself parked next to or near a (male) trucker who gets out of his rig dressed as a woman – dress, lingerie (presumably), high heels, the whole ball of wax. On rare occasion, one of these, um, people will actually walk up to my truck and offer to “service” me. My answer is always the same: “No thanks, dude, I’m not into that scene.”

They, of course, are not transsexuals, they are merely cross-dressers (or, technically, transvestites). But I have to admit that, over and above anything, the main thought in my mind is that they’re engaging in a major safety violation by wearing high heels when getting out of their truck since the steps on a tractor have holes in them (which could catch the heel and cause an injury).

But I digress. All I can conclude is that this is one whacked-out world. And, FWIW, I’m 100% behind laws that reserve men’s rooms for biological dudes and women’s rooms for biological dudettes.

Welcome to my ignore list. Glad I didn't read that whole pile of ignorant, mean-spirited, bigoted garbage.

Hundreds of millions, probably billions, of people think that being gay is the same as saying, "Hey, God, you screwed up and made me the wrong sexual orientation," since intercourse between two people of the same sex does not lead to procreation. Sort of answering what Ted Heiks said earlier, gender and sexual orientation are two different things. There are transgender women who are attracted to women, even after starting hormones. There are transgender men who are attracted to men, even after starting hormones. Also, many differentiate between gender and sex. Sex is biological; gender is a role or state of being masculine or feminine.

As for what happened in California, there have long been problems with people filming others for sexual gratification. It looks like the law California already had in place for this worked. There is no need for more unnecessary laws.
