Exactly, none of his wives are Guatemalan, Somalian, Mexican or Syrian for example.

It's more of a cultural, European who absorb in to his culture without any issues most of the time.

Likely, but that doesn't legitimize what he says or believes. That's Trump for you. I call it "selective xenophobia." I can remember him talking about Norway, saying "why can't we get more immigrants from nice countries, like Norway, instead of the shithole countries."

    He is what he is.

I don't think that putting down other cultures is necessary in order to lift up your own. In fact, I think it degrades your identity and humanity...

I think so, too. 100% I can't see where I suggested otherwise. I was responding to Lerner's (true) remark, confirming that Trump was only comfortable with those of a societal background reasonable similar to his own, and had nothing but prejudice and contempt for those who did not fit that profile - and for their countries.

It degrades, you say? Indeed. By this and other means, Trump has degraded himself about as far as humanly possible.

I was only commenting on Trump and his remarks. :)

The "in your face" approach where force is being applied is the one with walls, guns, and camps.

Sorry, but no patina of prose can hide that this position is just replacement theory. It's been the same tired BS from nativists for over a century. Now it's the Chinese and the Muslims, before that it was the Latinos, before that it was the Poles, and the Italians, and the Jews, and before that it was the Irish, and before that it was the Chinese, so I guess you all have run out of people to be terrified of and have had to start over.

I don't need to buy into any crazy replacement conspiracy in order to affirm the value of having a common culture with a room for minority immigration presence. The fact that the U.S. integration of Poles and Italians presented such a problem (Catholic vs. Protestant issues played a role in that, I am sure) shows that such integration is even problematic with European nations with a common religion, yet different faith expressions. You're an advocate for the integration on a much larger scale.

Thanks. I saw "lift up your own" and "degrades your identity" and thought mistakenly, that the remark was somehow critical of mine. Apologies.

If it's about absorbing those different from who is here, please note that it was Brown and Red people who were here first.

I will admit that the U.S. is in a completely different position from a monoculture which you can find in many European countries and to which I do not personally object. Instead, I think it is a valuable thing to preserve. That's the primary difference between me and some of the forum contributors.

Marvin Lee Aday. Singer. Not a band.

Meatloaf got a lot of things right- and a fair number wrong, I think. His life was complicated, as was he, as an individual. He didn't have an easy start in life, with an alcoholic father. To me, the things he got wrong included his opposition to COVID rules and Climate Change denial.

Rich, I'm really interested. Please tell me what you think he "got right" in this case. Is it something in his lyrics? Or his life? And I don't believe either of his wives, Leslie Edmonds or Deborah Gillespie, was an immigrant, so it must be something else, right?

Federal judge skeptical of Texas' SB 4 sweeping immigration law, says ruling will come 'soon'

What is SB 4 and when would go into effect
Passed by the Legislature in November, SB 4 creates a series of penalties for those suspected of coming into Texas from Mexico other than through a legal international port of entry. The penalties range from a Class B misdemeanor to a second-degree felony.

SB 4, which is set to go into effect on March 5, requires people accused of illegally crossing the state's southern border to either accept a magistrate judge's deportation order or face a second-degree felony charge for noncompliance.

The law was immediately challenged in court after its passage.

Mass migration has made integration impossible.
UK and EU are having serious issues.
"Robert Jenrick claimed that a “naive” policy of mass migration was responsible for breeding Islamist extremism and anti-Semitism, while the police focused on threats from the far-Right instead.
Speaking on GB News, Mr Jenrick told Camilla Tominey, The Telegraph’s Associate Editor: “You cannot resolve this problem, building a united country… built around British values unless you end this era of mass migration.
“We’ve been living in a time where up to a million people have arrived in our country every year, and it’s impossible to successfully integrate so many people.

“The level of migration we’ve experienced as a country the last 30 years has been unprecedented, and that needs to change.”
Net migration is estimated to have hit a record high of 745,000 in the year to last December, prompting warnings of a threat to community cohesion, housing supply and wage growth."

Why NATO Countries Say Russia Is Weaponizing Migrants | Wall Street Journal

Finland closed its border checkpoints with Russia in late 2023 over an influx of migrants. It’s something European leaders have described as an act of “hybrid warfare.” WSJ’s Ann Simmons explains why Helsinki says Moscow is behind the surge and why European leaders say Russia is weaponizing migration.

Trudeau says temporary immigration needs to be brought ‘under control’

    Link: https://globalnews.ca/news/10397176/trudeau-temporary-immigration-canada/

Trudeau: “Whether it’s temporary foreign workers or whether it’s international students in particular, that have grown at a rate far beyond what Canada has been able to absorb"

“To give an example, in 2017, two per cent of Canada’s population was made up of temporary immigrants. Now we’re at 7.5 per cent of our population comprised of temporary immigrants. That’s something we need to get back under control.”

The prime minister then said that this is driving mental health challenges for international students and that more businesses are relying on temporary foreign workers, driving down wages in some sectors.

The comments come amid a deluge of bad polls for Trudeau, who is currently trailing Conservative rival Pierre Poilievre by 14 percentage points in popularity. Poilievre has repeatedly campaigned on immigration, saying that “after eight years of Trudeau, our entire immigration system is ruined”, and that the PM “opened the floodgates” in a way that was disconnected from the number of homes to house people, and the amount of jobs to employ them.
