Hi Jonathan, Thanks, for the info. I am going to research the info that you sent me. I was reading other posts and looks like that in England, South Africa, and Australia we can have our Ph.D. program w/o being in situ, is that correct? Thanks, Maria Soledad
There are many options available to you both inside and outside the USA. If finances are a serious consideration then you may want to start your search here: http://www.unisa.ac.za/ Sometimes there are language barriers that prevent people from accessing all the resources that are available. If you have some Spanish language skills you may be able to consider this school: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_University_of_Distance_Education
Hi Kizmet, Thank you for pointing out those two parameters: money and/or language. I will explore la Universidad de España and also the one of South Africa. That looks very cool! Thanks again, Maria Soledad
Hello everyone, I don't think I have posted on here yet, but I guess it's better late than never. I'm from Virginia Beach, VA and recently moved to Phoenix, Arizona to attend Grand Canyon University. I'm relatively young, 21. After graduating from Grand Canyon University, I'm planning to go and obtain my master degree and then eventually get my post-graduate degree as well. Nice to meet you guys!
If you would kindly tell us what you're majoring in, we could help find you some schools for your master's and doctoral degrees.
I'm not sure if you're talking to me, but I'm majoring in business administration and planning to get my MBA, as for post-graduate degree, I have no idea what is after MBA. I do plan to teach business in the far future after my career set off as my side hobby. So while I am young, I want to get these degrees out of the way. While I am here I would like to ask, how many years of work experiences do you think I should acquire before applying myself into graduates school? I already have a year of experience as a manager at Walmart.
If you are certain that earning an MBA is the right path and if your GPA was good during your undergrad years then I would suggest that you not wait to apply to the MBA program of your choice. If I can say this gently, I think that many MBA programs will give almost anyone a chance to prove themselves by granting them admission to their degree program. However, once you are admitted I believe the bar is raised and it becomes rather difficult to remain a student in good standing. With so many programs on offer there will clearly be a bell curve but I suggest that you prepare yourself for several years of hard work. Best of luck.
Yes, I was talking to you. Sorry I didn't make myself clear on that. The Business and MBA Degrees sub-forum has a couple of Sticky threads on MBAs and DBAs.
Thank you for the information. I have already considered my choices of graduate schools, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and George Mason University (got a good word from my brother in law). My employer already gave me the prospective on what I need to become a regional manager for Walmart Corporation, a MBA in any regional and AACSB accredited school.
G'Day Everyone, My name is Pete, and I am a technical translator in Sydney. I was a member of Degree Info maybe 9 or 10 years ago, but somehow lost touch with what was happening here. It was so long ago, I can't even remember the login name I used, let alone the password. Late last year I came looking at Degree Info again, searching for information about free certificate courses that would help me get a job. I found the info I needed (in Free Online Courses with Certificates - Michael Gates), but while browsing the threads, I also remembered what a classy bunch of people you guys are. So I have been a regular lurker (again) since then. Today I realised I could make a meaningful answer to somebody's question, so I registered as a member again and offered my 2 cent's worth. I hope to once again join in the often hilarious, occasionally intense, but always educational discussions here. By the way, in case my login name has ruffled any feathers: Christian is actually my middle name, not a challenge to those of you who like to argue about religious issues. Looking forward to enjoying some great chats with you guys. Thanks, Pete PS: I would like to thank Michael Gates for starting that thread. It really helped me.
Hello Guys, I am Divya From Mumbai. I am here for getting some advice and also would like to provide proper guidance for students bright Career. Thank you.
Hi! I'm new here and just signed on last night. I'm a mid-career professional with a couple of masters degrees. My BA (1991) is in Economics, MA (2003) in Religious Studies, and MPA (2009) - Public Administration. What do I do for living? I'm an economist for federal government. Before figuring out that I wanted to do an MPA degree, I did my MA because I felt I needed to hone my liberal arts skills. These skills, I feel, are the core executive skills anyone needs to do well in their careers because they help you get to the top levels of companies, public or private. My MPA degree provided me with a narrow set of professional skills. Like my MA experience, I loved my MPA experience as well. I'm an adjunct lecturer at night and on the weekends. I teach undergrad economics and graduate level courses in public administration. Full time faculty love that I bring my real world experience to my courses because I am a "practitioner" in the PA field. I've been thinking about doctoral studies for a long time. Because of family and work commitments, often times I felt I should just forget about this dream. My wife tells me that I accomplished so much without a doctorate so why get one now? Well, because I'm a teacher and trainer at heart and I feel one can never sharpen their liberal arts skills enough. I'm just a professional student. Also, you can be a brainiac in your specialization but many will not appreciate what you know or offer if you don't know how to communicate or present your ideas well. I thought about going for the traditional PhD in Econ or Poli Sci, but the opportunity cost, I feel, are too great. Plus, I would just get a PhD for a teaching credential - primarily. This would be a disservice (spelling?) to the University and the degree itself where I would earn it. So, I'm applying to the DA program at HMU. What an interesting program! This program would meet my needs. I'm looking at the philosophy and Religion and Social Science majors in this program. I know a lot has been written here about HMU and the DA, but if there are any DA students or candidates in this forum, please tell me what you know about the program and your experiences. If you earned your DA, please let me know how you are using your DA. Best - Boethius
Hello, I'm in the process of pursuing a nursing track. I just don't know where to start due to my unique lifestyle demanding that I spend the vast majority of my time at home with my child. I've already posted in the general ed. forum with details on my situation and my education goals. I just wanted to post a hello here and send out a quick encouragement to others! I came here through reading an older edition of John Bear's book I bought on Amazon. What inspiration! I really want to get going on becoming and RN, but I need help on choosing a right path. Thanks to all who keep this forum alive and kicking! What a highly useful resource for people like me who are stuck in pre-decision mode. Cheers!
Hello, everyone! I found the community hosted by this website incredibly helpful while I was finding my educational path. I believe it would have taken me at least three times as long to to accomplish the same goals had it not been for this forum. I created a profile so I can do my best to "pay it forward". Here's a little about me: I dropped out of college with 60 credits. Years later, I decided I wanted to go back to school. I enrolled at TESC, finished my degree within 3 months, took the LSAT and applied to law schools. I decided to attend BLS. Meanwhile, I figured out I love health care law, so I applied to a bunch of Healthcare Administration programs. Now I am getting a masters degree from RFUMS online while I am in law school. If you have any questions or would like to hear more about my story, feel free to send me a message!
Hello everyone. Long time lurker first time poster. I got a hair up my butt today and decided to finally register and post something since I visit the site almost everyday. Some information about me: I served 16 yrs as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate (Nuclear professional for you civilian types) in the US Navy (got out in 2008 to pursue a more rewarding career at a major Utilities company in PA as a Mechanical Maintenance Manager at one of their Power Plants). I had started on my BS in Nuclear Engineering Technology from TESC back in 2005 while I was still serving and kind of dropped the ball for a while. I have taken a few CLEP's and classes here and there and Recently I started back up pretty seriously with TESC and am 3 classes shy of finishing my BS in Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology (I switched degrees because this one earned ABET Accreditation last year). A degree in my career field would not give me a raise or bump me to a higher level (unless I decided to go corporate), my pursuit for degree completion is purely for my own benefit. If anything I can be a decent example of how sheer military experience alone can land you a six figure job on the outside. I hope that I can give back to the forum, since it has helped me out immensely in my journey.
Hello all. Been lurking for a little bit and finally decided to register. I am almost finished with my MBA from UoP, one class to go. I am looking at DBA programs next, so far I am considering Walden and Capella as my top choices with Walden leading the way. I am currently a civilian logistics manager for the US Navy.
Welcome! You have come to a good place! I have found great knowledge here. Best you can get, and for FREE! Abner
