I didn't know this African country, feeling ashamed...

Please don't. Eswatini used to be Swaziland. The name was changed in 2018. From Wikipedia:

"On 19 April 2018, Mswati III announced that the Kingdom of Swaziland had been renamed as the Kingdom of Eswatini, reflecting the extant Swazi name for the state eSwatini, to mark the 50th anniversary of Swazi independence"

Mswati III is the Traditional Monarch. Whole thing here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eswatini#:~

The difference is that unlike Uganda, Eswatini is an actual monarchy, and King Mswati III is its actual head of state. If we're going to engage in the ill-advised practice of making fun of countries just because they're in Africa, let's at least get our facts straight.

My bad, Steve. Completely. Apologies all round. I actually did not know the difference. I recalled the
Uganda situation because "funny" i.e peculiar things DID happen there. The traditional monarchs were accrediting schools, for money, and bestowing great honours and titles on a few people we know well, here - e.g. Prof. Dr. Sir Prince John Kersey.

Complete dumbness on my part to assume Eswatini had the same situation. I have an awful lot to learn. And not just about Africa. Thanks for the lesson.

A couple of things on Euclid: The school is listed in the WHED database. I am not sure what that means exactly, but I found it interesting. Additionally, not a few individuals working for national governments, recognized churches, and large international organizations possess advanced degrees from Euclid, including one individual who is "Chief of Staff of the United States Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy."

It means basically that it's listed in the WHED. :) Additionally, it signifies that the school may be - or may have been - accredited (at some point.) We had a recent thread on this topic (WHED and its significance.)

That person is actually "Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy" - from the web-page for him at the Dept of Energy. He has a B.A. and two Master's degrees from extremely well-regarded schools. No mention of his Euclid degree on the page. If Euclid wants to feather their cap here, I have no problem with them - or this individual. Euclid lists this person under "Notable Alumni" - The University does not specify what degree was awarded.

I can live with that -- all of it.

I saw this and immediately thought of Former Biden senior Department of Energy official Sam Brinton (deputy assistant secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy) and thought whaaaaat. Between airport luggage theft and keeping his head shaved and lipstick fresh he was working on a degree from Euclid.

    Wrong dude.

In Euclid's case, it was listed in the WHED under Central African Republic and yes, it was accredited at that point. I believe the University of Bangui (The capital of CAR) had ties with Euclid and accorded it with the equivalent of accreditation (Quite properly). There have been many changes in the Government of CAR since. I don't know if Euclid still has accreditation or equivalent there. I remember some remarks by Fr. Cleenewerck about it here at DI - not sure of the details.

I thought these days, Euclid was relying on its Gambia Ministry approval. Not sure whether ot not Euclid is listed under Gambia or not.

Yes. I had a huge advantage there: complete ignorance. I'd never heard of Sam Brinton. So I Googled the position as quoted by Michael. Up came the Euclid listing (And nothing else) and then I used the name to get the web page. Sometimes, the less you know.... fewer things get in the way. :)

Seems to still be under CAR.

It seems like it's been years since we last talked about Euclid, so I took a few minutes to peruse their website. They're still pointing to CAR, the Gambia, and the UN as their sources of accreditation.

But something new (to me, at least) is that they've now developed a spin-off organization, based in Curacao (part of the Netherlands), called The Euler-Franeker Memorial University Institute (or EULER, for short). This institute has gained "degree-granting charter from the Ministry of Education of Curacao". While they are currently issuing diplomas directly from Euclid, they hope to be issuing fully accredited degrees in EULER's own name sometime this year:

This "charter" may be a license to legally award degrees of no standing or State Recognition. Like Panama and Swiss Cantons do. See the search facility here under "Ministry of Education of Curacao." Some very familiar "university" names are mentioned there. I don't feel like getting sued (again) this morning - so no list from me. Some of the schools track me. I'm serious. Linux lets me know.

They claim that until Euler goes through accreditation project their degrees will be awarded by Euclid.

No objection here. I have no horse in this race. As far as I'm concerned, what happens in Curacao stays in Curacao. Same with CAR and Gambia.
