When your wife says "NO!", that means no! :) She sounds so strong. Have a coworker who lost her hair a couple years ago during chemo and she put on a wig and you could hardly notice, you'd forget it was a wig. Now she's cancer free and has all her hair back.

I never have figured out how to post photos here - BUT, my dear friend's 13 year old so was in treatment for lymphoma, 2 of us organized a BUZZ for BRYCE event where everyone came and we shaved their heads. I have photos- it was awesome. In fairness, only the guys got buzzed, but it was great. Those who didn't do the buzz gave blood.

I would like to but my boss Kim said she would kill me if i buzzed my hair! She doesn't want me looking like a gang banger like my nephew!

Kim is on her second round of chemo, two more to go? She has had no side effects other than hair loss. She is also getting seconds opinions, one at UCLA, and one at UCI.

Any reason for the second/third opinions, other than caution? Hopefully all is going as well as can be expected?

Everything is going well. Just a precaution, as this can be deadly. Thanks for asking. She is currently under the care of a Harvard trained super star, and he has experience in her rare form of uterine cancer. But it doesn't hurt to get a couple of second opinions.

She is doing well, and is quite the trooper. This has not slowed her down one bit. She is halfway through her chemo, and still has not got things like nausea or vomiting! The hair is gone, but she said "Oh well, it's just hair, it will grow back and I want the cancer out of me!".

    Have a good weekend.

Second and third opinions are always helpful in terms of c.onfirming both the original diagnosis and treatment plan.

With one note of caution . . . Unless all hope is lost (and, in Kim's case, it does not appear to be), one should avoid clinical trials and go with proven treatments instead. Since clinical trials are often double blind, in which many of the participants receive placebo treatments, a patient may not get an effective treatment at all. Stay with hospitals that are geared toward treatment, not research at the patient's risk. In other words, it's sometimes best to avoid major research-oriented medical centers.

Well, Kim is having her third round (out of 4) of chemo this Friday. She is all smiles, and has missed a single day of work due to nausea or vomiting from the chemo. Damn, she is tough, cancer just can't keep her down! I am very proud of her, she has great courage.

I've gotta say. KLim has displayed true heroism. She has not cried once, and she has not fallen ill to the chemo! She wastes no time feeling sorry for herself, but maintains a positive attitued. I tip my hat to hero, she is a true hero. She keeps smiling throughout the whole process.

    Hi Abner,

I've just been re-engaging here, and saw this thread. I'm sorry to hear of this situation - I know of a number of others at the moment - and you and your wife will be in my prayers, too. As others have mentioned, it does sound like she is a tough lady who is handling this in the best way possible. Much grace to her, and to you.

    Peace,

    Matt

Keep it up, Abner, some of her strength surely comes from her husband.

I have got to say that I am very proud of my wife! She has taken her fight with courage, and hasn't shed tear! She just puts on a wig ( and lets face it folks, you can tell a wig from a while away!) I am in complete awe of her, cancer has not scared her! That is true courage! I love you Kim!

    Taking Kim for chemo today

She has suffered no ill affects other than feeling tired for a couple of days afterward. After this chemo session, she just has two more sessions to go! Hopefully, after that we could put this behind us.

Abner, it sounds like it's going as well as it possibly can- that's wonderful!
