Nations' latest newsletter makes no mention of accreditation. According to the DETC site, their most recent Accrediting Commission Meeting occurred on January 19-20, but it doesn't look like they've posted any results from that meeting yet. So, no news yet, but it's possible that Nations could be listed on the DETC "New Applicants" list when they update their website. (I'm NOT saying it's likely, nor am I claiming that DETC even considered them to be added to that list during this meeting, we don't know. It's merely possible, we'll have to wait and see.)

I think a lot of people would be happy to see them get it.

I would love to see Nations get DETC accreditation. I recently enrolled in the MRS program they offer and find the work to be at an acceptable level for graduate education. It isn't the most rigorous work I have ever encountered, but it is still a quality program.

I have heard back from them. They are still in the process and mentioned that they did not know why they were not listed on the DETC site.

We successfully completed a Readiness Assessment in September of last year. We are soon to have about 40 courses evaluated. Moreover, in the near future we will host an onsite visit. Once the evaluation process is finalized we will then address any issues that require attention. It has been a long and expensive process. However, NU is determined and committed to earning accreditation.

How expensive is it? Just roughly.

Dang, you beat me to it! :(

But it's great to hear that NU made it to this step in the process!

The University of Atlanta is still touting their DETC accreditation on their website, and the "Apply Online" feature still works. Do they intend to forge ahead as an unaccredited school?

Can someone help me learn about the following:

-Nations University has been around since 1995. According to the DETC website, they are now an official applicant for DETC accreditation. My question is, how long does it typically take for a school to go from application to approval with the DETC?

-I always check the faculty list to make sure there aren't any milled degree holders. While looking at Nations' list, I noticed that the Chancellor lists a degree from "The International University": http://www.nationsu.org/uploads/file/2012%20Catalog%20%28PDF%29.pdf, and it looks to be unaccredited and kind of ridiculous. Here is the accreditation page, where it just OOZES with millish backpedal speech and qualification: Accreditation of The International University, Missouri, USA

Is this the same school the Chancellor is listing?

-The Chancellor also lists himself as having an "STD". Now, I know what that means in the sexual sense... but what does that mean in academics?

    Ted,

For Dr. Lynn it is the Doctor of the Science of Theology (S.T.D.). Dr. Lynn holds a doctorate from a very highly regarded seminary, and was a professor and department chair at several universities, including Harding and David Lipscomb, for decades.

That's absolutely wonderful. But what about the degree being listed from "The International University"? Is this the same school:

TIU - The International University, Missouri, USA (Official Website)

Here is a quote copied and pasted from the TIU website's front page, and I quote:

"3. You can give Exams Online ass per your convenience from your own PC"

Spacing and misspellings were pasted, unedited.

And if this is the same program from where he's listing that second Doctorate, I don't understand why a person with a legitimate Doctorate from a respected program would list a second Doctorate from a place like that, which appears questionable to say the least. It's not the first time I've seen such a thing, but I still find it off-putting, and, quite frankly, dishonest.

I'm not gonna take sides in this -- except to say that although I have no religious convictions myself, I like Nations in general, especially because of the job they do for free. I don't, however, like milled degrees at all. Always disappointing to see them - anywhere.

We've had a l-o-n-g monstro-thread, cited below, discussing several of Nations' faculty, some with both milled and genuine degrees. And yes, that's the same TIU. Dr. Lynn's second doctorate (from TIU) is discussed there - around pages 5&6, IIRC :

Very disappointing. Personally, I'm only convicted to take the side of what's right, and listing terribly fake degrees simply doesn't--nor should it--pass that test. Considering the field being dealt in, it's quite disheartening to see. Those folks know what they're doing is not right. I can't support that.

Dishonest? I find that statement ridiculous.
