The GOP of Lee County Florida voted to ask DeSantis to ban Covid vaccines. Not ban vaccine mandates or anything like that; no, they want to make the vaccines themselves illegal.

    I have no words left.

IMHO, the problem here is touched on by the thread
"Fox News Doesn't Care About Truthful Reporting"

Then more directly addressed by the thread
"Average excess death rates were 76% higher among Republicans than Democrats"

The lies spread by Fox News, Newsmax, OANN, etc. keeps their viewers excited upset and emotionally charged. It increases viewer populations. Convinces these viewers that they need to part with their money and donate to conservative causes. Everyone wins except the viewers. The poor viewers are separated from reality, their money and sadly even their lives.

And will local police departments be instructed to pursue and arrest anyone attempting to leave the State for vaccination purposes?
Isn't that what some GOPnik (Thanks, Stanislav) said was going to happen in Texas, to abortion-seekers?

The reality, these days, is beyond any crazy s#*! that people can make up. Too long under the Southern sun.

Or was that the Governor himself? I forget.

The difference in both infection rates and mortality between those who vaccinate and those who do not tell me (a) the virus is effective and (b) so are the vaccines.

My one concern was whether or not the unvaccinated were increasing significantly the risks to those who vaccinated. It appears not.

The only thing remaining is the public health measures (restrictions) that will be needed to fight off a second pandemic--experienced most by the unvaccinated--that will impact everyone.

I'm 80. I get this COVID crap - I probably die. So - I'm vaccinated. Fully. 5 shots. So far. I expect more.

Here in Canada - 90% have at least 1 dose. 83% are fully vaccinated.
In US - quite a bit less - 79% at least 1 dose, 68% fully vaccinated.

And US has a much worse record of mortality. Glad I'm here.

All I can do now is avoid Canuck anti-vaxxers and keep my shots up. And yeah, wear a mask, even where not required sometimes. (And yes I KNOW vaccine isn't complete protection. But it's the best we have.)

Vaccination, to me, is not a thing to theorize and philosophize about. The death numbers are in. The sick struggle with grim after-effects. Neither can be argued about. It's what to do. If not for yourself, for others.

Two Idaho state legislators have introduced a bill to criminalize administering a Covid vaccine.

There's no vaccine for "crazy." And it's starting to look like an epidemic out there. I'd isolate them. Permanently.

And now a pair of Florida legislators introduced a bill to decertify any major political party that ever supported slavery. In other words, deprive the Democrats of major party status. These guys may not be actual Nazis but they seem to follow the Nazi playbook for creating an authoritarian state.

If the bill passes, unlikely, I rather imagine even the Florida Supreme Court would toss it out.

This from a former slave state that seceded from the Union.
Perhaps. Unless at the same time the Tallahassee Institute for the Insane is holding a bocce tournament at the same time, or something.

My favorite fact to bring up after Republican comments like this is the fact that after the voting rights act passed in the 60's most racists switched parties from the Democrats to the Republicans. My parents among them. This is shown at the national level as all the southern states eventually switched from Democrat to Republican.

Back then even most all of the white folks fighting in the Union army were probably racist. That's still better than the rebels. Probably close to 100% of the rebels were racist I'd guess.

Of course such discussions are illegal now in Florida schools. Heaven forbid that any topics be discussed that would make DeSantis uncomfortable.

Great books to read on the subject of the fighting men on both sides, What They Fought For -James McPherson. Also another great book is from my Civil War professor, Dr. Steven Woodworth ( he teaches at TCU and Liberty) is from the religious viewpoint of the fighting men in the Civil War in While God is Marching On. The results might surprise you with both books.

Lincoln's understanding of his duty as well as his very clear realization that slavery was at the heart of secession are well laid out in his First Inaugural Address. It's not long and well worth reading for oneself. The text also demonstrates that Lincoln was a very good lawyer in the American mode.
