Well, well. McCarthy actually acted for the good of the country

Or divvy up the work into uber-committees, coming together as a House only to vote.

Virtual sessions would allow representatives to work from their districts and, possibly, be more accessible to their constituents. Even more so with more districts with smaller numbers in each.

In 1987 voters in New Brunswick elected Liberal candidates to all 58 seats in the provincial legislature. With no non-Liberal member to face the government at Question Period, the Liberal government allowed the second-place Progressive Conservative party to submit written questions. (The next election in 1991 produced a livelier legislature: The Liberals won another majority government but three opposition parties won seats.)

I would guess that having so many House of Representative districts would eliminate the undemocratic practice known as gerrymandering.

Can we vote here on DegreeInfo and get the constitution updated? :)

Incitatus. Probably looked something like Mitch McConnell...

Interestingly there are some MPs in the British Parliament who submit questions in writing because their colleagues can't understand their accents.

Popular species among anglers include northern pike, walleyes, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, muskies, carp, yellow perch, and bullheads, but the river also has crappies, pumpkinseeds, rock bass, catfish, coho salmon, chinook salmon, lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, eels, suckers, drum, and others.

Not quite - here are the RIGHT lyrics, by a Canadian, David Wilcox. It's a favourite of mine, for obvious reasons :) :

Sittin' on a Riverboat havin' a party
    Me and My Cajun queen
She's turnin' 21 on the Mississippi river
    Headin' out of New Orlean

    The Year is 1894
Oh, Come on mama and love me some more
Her dark eyes flashed like a Gambler's ring
She shakes her pretty head and sings

    CHORUS:
Life for me is a Riverboat Fantasy
    Watchin' the sun go down
Oh, a rock & roll band, with a reefer in my hand
Now look at that wheel go round
    Cocaine kisses and moonshine misses
    That's the life for me
I'm sailing away from my heartache
    On a Riverboat fantasy

Can't think, Can't drink anymore whisky
I coulda drunk a river dry
Mmm, this old boat is a just sittin' in the moon light
Catchin' the gleam in her eye
Showers of rain come pourin' down
The sky full of stars like a French Lace gown
Shimmer, glimmer I think I'm going to fall
WHAT?? Catch me mama that's all.

    You can hear it here:

Oh my how I wish it did! I'd sail all the way down to Biloxi.... OK Maybe I could changes the lines:

"Sittin' on a riverboat, havin' a party
    Me and my Cajun reine
She's turnin' 21 on the St. Lawrence River
    Steamin' past la Madeleine."

    Will that do? :)

You know - I have a lot of weaknesses. And David Wilcox's songs cater to ALL of them! :)

That didn't stop David Wilcox. Not for a second. Nah - I think I like his song the way it is.

It's occasionally happened in the Caribbean that a national legislature would consist entirely of members of one party. Those examples and this one are great examples why party list proportional representation is better than single member districts. It eliminates gerrymandering too.
