So Union's drain gets plugged and Rich takes the plunger to CCU. To repeat "Why does a discussion of how crappy Union is always end with a discussion of how crappy CCU is" I didn't know there was a connection.

Ironically, I hold CCU in much higher esteem than does Steve. I like the school. I hope they get DETC accreditation. But hoping doesn't make it so. And making silly comparisons makes it obvious.

The only ones making the connection are those who are connected themselves to CCU, then have the gall to criticize Union for things CCU can't even approach. Please look at Kirkland's post again. He attempts to demonstrate CCU's superiority, which is ridiculous.

I think he is defending CCU from ridiculous attacks that were put forth by individuals whose method of supporting their school is bringing down another.

Usually because students or alumni make absurd statements trying to boost CCU.

errrnnnntttt -10 there, flamer. Yes, I invite the reader to look at my post. I am not into nonsensical "my school is better than your school" arguments and don't need to be. I am secure in my career and education. I was merely responding to "pathetic joke" insults and misinformation with some facts about two schools that are now juxtapositioned in this thread as a result of defensive aggressiveness and debating debilities. Calling this information absurd and ridiculous or focusing on inconsequential nits in a number of points seems to be the rebuttal and does not make anyone's position more tenable...

I don't remember that part other than as a defense of CCU after a totally gratuitous attack.

It is amazing how the alumni of the worst reputed regionally accredited school have to defend it only by cutting down another school not being discussed. Maybe it's their research methods course. Silly me, I just said Union has doctoral courses. I should have said their research methods equivalency.

What in hell are you talking about?

I entered discussion on 29th post.

33rd post mentions me being in an unaccredited pogram.

39th post by Rich Douglas tears a strip off CCU. RIGHT OUT OF THE FREAKING BLUE.

  9. Might I suggest that the Administrators add a new forum, dedicated to those members whose goal seems to be turning 90% of the threads-- no matter what the topic-- into personal pissing contests about why Union sucks? It could be called "Mine's Bigger" or something equally appropriate. All threads degenerating to that level could be moved to that forum, and the worthwhile ones that remain can be read without the "white noise."

This is degenerating into AED Light.

I didn't even post until the 29th post and posted nothing significant until after CCU got trashed.

Sure Union sucks, so do lots of schools.

The fact that the two most agressive R/A only boosters went to same bottom feeder school personally delights me to no end.

    Die thread, die.

    Well put, Dennis.

It works best if Kirkland and Dennis have the last word. So I'm out of it.

Douglas: "Union's troubles are related to finance..."

The following would indicate otherwise, unless Levicoff is wrong about this too:

    "by Steve Levicoff:

    ...the
fact that Union was recently placed on probationary status by OBR, the
office of degree authorization for Ohio's state department of higher
education, which found that the dissertations of many Union learners
were lacking in doctoral-level quality. (I agree with OBR, as I've
found the quality of Union learners to go down the tubes somewhat over
the past few years. It got to the point where I wouldn't even consider
serving as an adjunct on any further Union doctoral comittees.)..."

I was gone but was asked back for a final reply.

Has anyone else heard that some recent PhD theses from Union are being examined for quality of research and writing and the lack of rigor demanded from their hand picked kissy face doctoral committee? As a result some of these theses may be recalled and put in glass display cases and be unavailable for research. Sorry - I guess there is nothing to it - just day dreaming.

I think that I see where this may be heading, given that one of our posters is a recent Union doctoral grad.

I wish to offer an opinon as one who 1) has advised and reviewed several theses and dissertations, 2) has served as a research and development proposal reviewer for the Department of Education and several professional associations, 3) who has read dozens of qualitative and quantitative dissertations from various RA universities, 4) never attended Union U&I, and 5) has no vested interested at all in the Union/CCU debate.

I recently received a copy of Rich Douglas' dissertation, "The Accreditation Of Degree-Granting Institutions And Its Role In The Utility Of College Degrees In The Workplace", as I wished to consider referencing it in a paper that I am presenting later this year at a conference in Chicago. After reviewing it and determining that it is a very well done piece of research (equal to dissertations that I have reviewed from USC, UC Riverside and other institutions), I am looking forward to including his findings in my presentation. Although it is labeled a "Project Demonstrating Excellence" (after the Union designation), it is, in fact, a straightforward doctoral dissertation that makes a valuable contribution to the field. I cannot speak about the quality of other Union dissertations, but there is no way that this one would ever be "recalled".

Rich has no idea that I was going to make this post (neither did I until about 15 minutes ago). I don't have any dealings with Rich Douglas (or anyone else on this forum).

    Dear Rich,

For someone who has scaled the mountain and gone down to the other side, my hat is off to you. I am still a young pup and hope to carry myself as well as you have. Congratulations on your dissertation and your earning of the Phd. IMHO, a Phd is tough to earn....the coursework, the research...and all.
