Agreed, preemptive pardons are suspect. Not quite as bad when done to try to "heal". For example Carter's pardon to all Vietnam War draft dodgers. Which was controversial at the time, especially with veteran's groups. Or Ford's pardon of Nixon. This arguably cost Ford his political career. Trump's pardon's have been corrupt though, like his pardon of Roger Stone and Flynn to protect himself. As well as the future likely pardons that many expects him to grant to his family and maybe even himself.

I wonder what the impact would be on a pardon issued for corrupt reasons?

I wonder what they think would destroy the GOP worse than what has already happened? I mean Trump has already destroyed it hasn't he? It used to stand for States rights. the case from Texas destroyed that. The GOP used to stand for fiscal responsibility and Trump's tax cut for the wealthy destroyed that. The GOP used to be pro-NATO and suspicious of Russia. Trump did the opposite. The Republican party didn't even bother with a party platform this year. The platform was just whatever fit Trump's current fancy. I really don't know what the Republican party will stand for in the coming year or two? I think it is going to probably take Trump either going to jail or going to his grave to get to a point where the GOP is no longer destroyed and can be rebuilt? I mean assuming the GOP wins one of the Georgia Senate seats. Mitch is really good at running an opposition party. Better than he was at running the party in power over the past 4 years. So the GOP will have that but not much else that I can tell? Just the destructive fantasies of a pathological liar.

Great news! Trump's "lawyers" have found a court still willing to hear his case! Check it out:

Ah yes, I forgot about that one. It was so long ago. The GOP gave up on that one when they nominated Trump. Although I predict Trump will be pardoning his family. That's a different kind of family values isn't it?

Mere posturing. Both Houses must agree to exclude a state's votes and that won't happen.

My guess is that the Republicans will try it. They'll get one Representative and one Senator to object. It will then go to a 2-hour debate, after which the two houses will vote to overcome the objection.

The Democrats did this in 2017 as well. It was symbolic, since Clinton wasn't contesting the election. This is more serious, but just as unlikely to succeed.

My favorite part will be watching Mike Pence declare Joe Biden as the winner. Pence still thinks he has presidential ambitions, and as been trying not to tick off the cult. But the cult doesn't understand that his role in this is purely ceremonial; they're going to hold it against him. Maybe he can call in sick that day.

He's a lot of things, but he's not stupid. I expect he'll come up with a way to admit it without alienating his base. (Doubly so in that the Trump base seems more or less inalienable.)

No, he's not stupid. That's why it will be entertaining, because a lot of the Republican base is determined to misinterpret what should be a compulsory ceremony and blame him for it.

    Political cannibalism.
Am I glad I'm not a professional politician. They would have eaten me in no time. One need a "bomb" squad in their walk.
I think all or most have good intentions to represent their constituency, making a difference, contribute and/or getting power and rich when they run for an office of representative or senator and then the reality strikes.
Some must do something right when they keep their place for decades.

Arizona's eleven electors cast their votes in an undisclosed location in Phoenix because of threats of violence from the Trump crowd. Michigan closed their capitol during their electoral vote for the same reason. During the whole BLM upset, the GOP side pointed, rightly, at the Left wing's violence during protests. Now, however, some of the Trump camp seems justified in using threats of force to get their way. This is very distressing.

This ain't right. I don't support such violence or threats at all.
While there were some unrest in 2016 nothing like this.
But who knows times changed, everybody is more on the age our days.
So possibly if Trump was wining and Dem's challenging the elections integrity we would have seen violence on the streets etc.
This shouldn't be happening at all.
    We are not Belarus.
Was there around the world any peaceful elections in 2020?

Okay, folks, that's a wrap. Joe Biden got his winning number of electoral votes. What will the Trump people try next?
