It's just about 15 minutes before kickoff. The Las Vegas line has shifted a bit and now San Diego is favored by 6.5 points. For me it's not a question about whether the Pats will win. They will, of course, win. The question is, will they beat the spread? I'm going to stick with my original prediction, the Pats will win by 3.
Well, I suppose that I COULD have been more wrong but I would have had to try real hard. The Chargers won convincingly (30-10) and I'm afraid that I'm on the verge of losing my optimism for this season. In any case, I'll be back next week with what seems to be a lengthy string of bad predictions.
I haven't posted much to this forum over the past several weeks because 1. I've been mondo busy, 2. my computer finally was taken off life-support (RIP), and 3. because my predictions have been so (predictably) bad. Tonight the Pats play the Jets. The winner will be in first place in the division. I'd love to see the Pats win but the fact is that the Jets are the more likely winners (by 3 points). Defying the odds I'm still going to pick the Patriots. I still think that the game will be decided by a field goal but, if it comes down to it, I'll take the Pats kicker over anybody.
This Sunday is a must win for my Cowboys. It is against the Redskins ( Cowboys fans do not like Redskin fans or vice versa...LOL) and we need it so bad for our morale.
Is it me, or will Matt Cassel become the Scott Mitchell of the next NFL season? Not a bad payday for being the mediocre backup on a great team!
Tom Bradys injury couldn't have happened at a better time for Matt Cassel. All things considered he's having a pretty good season and at the end of the year he becomes a free agent. I'd be surprised to discover that his agent isn't already shopping him around.
Hey, one of my buds just sent this to me. Michael Vicks bankrupcy statement. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/1113081vick1.html
He must be dog tired, from spending all that money. When Joe Louis was heavyweight champion, a reporter said to him, "You're making millions. What do you do with it?" Louis replied, "I don't know. They give me $50 a day walking around money, and that's good enough for me."
How ironic that one of the teams likely to court Cassel is the Detroit Lions, the very team that made Scott Mitchell a millionaire for having some decent games for the Dolphins when Marino was injured. $709,000 to a liquor company???
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Pats beat the Dolphins so convincingly. I try not to be superstitious about such things but maybe it's better if I don't make predictions.
While my first priority is CFL, when it comes to the NFL, the NE Pats definitely are my fav - and they're playing well on top of things!
The Patriots are tied with the Dolphins and the Jets for the top spot in the AFC East. At this point in the season, every game is a "must win" situation. I think that the Jets are the team most likely to slip backwards in the standings. The Patriots have been plagued with injuries all season. At some point that just has to catch up with you. Still, I think they'll take Oakland today.
I'm on vacation and it's snowing pretty hard right now so there's not as many things to do. I thought I'd wrap up my Patriots season with a final post on that subject. Overall they had a great year. They went 11 and 5 and with all the injuries they had that's an amazing season. Only one other team in NFL history failed to make the playoffs with an 11 and 5 record. It was an exciting season to watch this team. It will be interesting to see how things develop in the off-season. The #1 question will be, "Which team will scoop up Matt Cassel?" Best of luck to all the teams that are moving forward into the playoffs.
So, who made the playoffs this year? And who was the team that failed to make the playoffs with an 11-5 record?
