    They coexist all the time.
Founders and Visionaries of Zionist movement had many well kbwn rabbis.
It's was always a joint journey.
    It's complicated, yes.
But since every group has representation in parliamen Kneset, each group exercises and promotes the interests.
As they say, Jerusalem is praying, Tel Aviv is partying and Haifa is sleeping.
Torah is what kept the Jewish people as a nation all these years.
The bigest fear for the Haredi about IDF service is that their children will come home from Army as secular and no longer be willing to devote their lives to study Torah.
They felt betrayed when this happened in the past. When they were nieve, Ben Gurion recognized that and made concessions.
This is why they are fighting for it.
I think that most Israelis would accept a type of alternate national service.
I personally think, IDF can create an environment for ultra orthodox to serve and earn the trust of the Haredi communities.

My bigest concern if diplomacy fails, is the possibility of a full blown war with Lebanon. Iran,
Taliban, Turkey, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, West Bank and others all will send fighters to help Hezbolllah.

Will Israel use tactical weapons in order to survive?
Who else will be drawn in to the war?

For being a haven from those that hate Jews, however broadly defined. I expect that's why Israel's law of return applies even to many who wouldn't be considered a Jew under traditional definitions.

Good answer but who is a Jew?

Anyway, as I say, it's complicated.

Israel's military said that Hamas militants fired a projectile at a UNICEF humanitarian aid convoy carrying children.
Israel Defense Forces said the convoy was in the process of reuniting children from northern Gaza with their families in the south.
Israel Defense Forces said in a statement on X, "Hamas fired a projectile at a @UNICEF aid convoy aiming to reunite children from northern Gaza with their families in the south.
Despite our continuous efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid, Hamas jeopardizes the safety of Gazan civilians. Hamas reminds us once again who the real threat to Gaza's safety is."

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., became the first member of the progressive group of House lawmakers known as “the squad” to lose a primary challenge in the 2024 cycle on Tuesday night, after suffering a bruising defeat to a more moderate Democratic candidate in his Bronx-area district.

If they were truly anti-war, then they wouldn't be supporting Netanyahu and Zionist extremism. They're trying to have their cake and eat it too. They also have the audacity to be far right while on welfare.

Good riddance. (Although one factor here was that like 90% of that district is Westchester County, not the Bronx.)

Enemies are trying to destroy your country and kill all the people, you can't afford to be anti-war, even if inside you are anti-war.
There are times when war is unfortunately the only solution, and there are times when nobody is asking you, simply attacking you, and you have to defend or perish.
When diplomacy is failing, and the enemy is at gate, forcing war upon you.

An Israeli friend sent this to me:

"A Jew is a Jedean, meaning that he comes from the land of Judah, his religion is the religion of Moses, his people are Hebrew and his country is Israel.
As for the genealogy, I can definitely say where my ancestors were 500 and 600 years ago because we have records of that, and indeed they lived in Safed and Jerusalem.

The Jewish religion in evolving forms appears in many writings as early as the seventh century BC, Sennacherib writes about it hundreds of years before that, Jews appear in non-biblical passages, and the people referred to by the pharaoh in the Mernaphath stele is 'the people of Israel'.
And it also appears in Bible books such as the Book of Kings (which was written during the time of King Josiah, about 2700 years ago) - "At that time, King Ratzin of Aram returned Eilat to Aram, and robbed the Jews of Eilot and Aram (and Edom) Come to Eilat , and they sat there, until this day.'
The prophet Jeremiah writes like this: "For a man to send his manservant and a man to send his maidservant, the Hebrew and the Hebrew are looking for their servant in a Jew, and his brother is a man."
And Ezra the writer writes in Aramaic, which is the language of the Levantine region: "Know him to be king, O Judah, O remove him from among you, let him go to Jerusalem."
And even in the New Testament, which was written in the first century CE: "And they said, '“Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
In the coins found from the First Temple period (about 2700 years ago) the word Y.H.D appears.
And also in the names of the people themselves.
In fact, the shekel we use today is an exact copy of the shekel used during the First Temple period.

We Jews, the Hebrew people, the owners of the land of Israel, know how to read and write in Aramaic, which is the language of the region since the third century BC.
How many of the Christians and Arabs who came from the Arabian Peninsula know the language of the Levantine region?
These are the conquerors, not us, we have been the people of this land for thousands of years in undisputed succession, even though they exiled many parts of us, those who returned to this land, cultivated it, built it and the people united in glory, seeing the protection of the hearts of the nations of the world who seek again and again like wolves to destroy and kill and lose this nation.
Blessed are those who are with Israel, our friends worldwide, cursed are those who seek our destruction, as they will fail just like those who tried before them.
    Nation Israel Lives."

I didn't say they were anti-war though I suppose some are. Some don't think the State of Israel should exist. Some don't participate in in politics at all. It's more of a mosaic than a monolith.

    Strong voices from Israel.
Israel has legal right to annex West Bank and Gaza.
West Bank was annexed by Jordan before it was lost to Israel in 1967, Jordan gave up this area. Same for Gaza it was Egyptian, Egypt lost it, and gave up Gaza.
Israeli presence needs to be in all areas of Israel, manage all civilian affairs, education.
All residents will become Israeli citizens with equal rights.
There is no other solution in sight, hostile state will be a prize to terrorists..!
This is not hard right but many center and left accept this reality.

Then, they can fight like everyone else. They made the decision to move to that land.

Pennsylvania Senate passes bill to bar universities and pension funds from divesting from Israel

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/pennsylvania-senate-passes-bill-bar-221407881.html

"HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s state Senate approved legislation Thursday that would block state aid from going to any university that boycotts or divests from Israel, following pro-Palestinian vandals i.e "protesters" on college campuses across the country that included demands for divestment.
The measure, which passed by a vote of 41 to 7, also would bar the state treasurer and public pension systems from boycotting or divesting from Israel's government or commercial financial activity in that country.
Supporters of the legislation said it was motivated by a desire to support an ally nation in its war with Hamas, to fight a rising tide of antisemitism in the United States and to alert state-subsidized universities that they must protect Jewish students from threats and bullying by anti-Israel "protesters" - i.e mislead and indoctrinated by Hamas and Jihad collaborators."

It is moving to see this man manifestly a citizen of his country.

Citizenship of one's country is a right that should not long be denied.

Well, no, they maybe didn't "move to that land." Their communities may have predated the founding of the State and they were often born there. Tell me, would you force American conscientious objectors to fight?

A conscientious objector may still be willing to use force to defend themselves or others, and may even support a state's right to go to war, as long as the individual objects to personal participation in such armed conflict between states or groups.
Although conscientious objection was not initially part of the draft law, individuals could provide a substitute or pay a commutation fee.
(CPS) provided conscientious objectors in the United States an alternative to military service during World War II. From 1941 to 1947 nearly 12,000 draftees, 452  unwilling to do any type of military service, performed work of national importance in 152 CPS camps throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
During the Vietnam War, about 170,000 men were classified as conscientious objectors and 300,000 were denied that status.
