DI helped me to be a better person. At first, I was easily offended by politically incorrect speech. Now I do not mind reading offensive postings within the POS and maybe even agreed with some of them. I have even gotten better at writing my own sarcasm.

Abner, there is enough information to do an accredited Ph.D. for under $US8k so no need to break the bank. Of all the degrees, the undergraduate is the most challenging and quite possibly the most expensive in terms of direct and opportunity costs. The master is the easiest and the cheapest. The Ph.D. in the middle difficulty and likely cheaper than an undergraduate; and with and open mind it could be extremely inexpensive.

Tell us some stories some time man! You are a very gifted writer, and it added levity and delight to many, including me. But, I have a propensity toward the verbose, so I i will conclude my comments. This forum doesn't just need to be strictly about DI. This is what separates us from the other forum. We are all living, breathing human beings who are constantly envolving the best that we can. If you can't tell a funny story or post about politics once in a while, then I say WTF! This is a fun forum, and there is no reason why we can't add some levity to things. Life is hard enough, isn't it?

Please tell us a story about your recent Karoake adventures in the a way only you can. I miss your writings and stories. Just because you are a mod doesn't mean you are a robot. Enought said, I have said my peace. I wish 10% percent as intelligent as you. BTW - haven't heard from Bruce lately. Hope he is doing well. Happy upcoming Turkey day!

Sincerely, Abner  Gee whiz, people need to lighten up. And I would encourage my friend meagain to keep posting about Trump. Congrats on your victory! You called it right when everyone else was calling you crazy including me. And I respect you for your faith.

Given the nature of the two websites, it's not surprising that we'd have less active educational discussions. Finding a school with a DL program is actually easier these days than finding a school without a DL program. It's finally possible to ask your academic adviser about things you used to have to figure out on your own. Also, most of this forum's educational content has been with sharing information and news whereas the other forum is focused on people getting step-by-step through their programs. There's a lot more to be said in a discussion related to each credit of a degree, VS a discussion related to just the beginning (which program is right for me?) and end (I'm done!!!) of a degree.

I'll say in defense of degreeinfo that my experience has been the opposite of what several others are saying in that thread. Even with the occasional troll or tiff, and even when I would go a little crazy and express some youthful immaturity, I've always felt welcome here. On the other hand, although there were several great people on degreefoum, there was a lot that I didn't like about it and even though I was probably in the wrong at times, too, I felt that I was treated unfairly when I was there.

DegreeInfo has a very rich history of its members challenging each other, expecting each other prove their point, having major disagreements and allowance for open debate. I think this is a good thing, but it's clearly not everyone's cup of tea and, of course, has at times gotten out of hand. That's the nature of dialectic.

I have never notice you being anything but polite and intelligent sounding. Keep posting, and remember that you are allowed to have fun even though you are a mod, otherwise, what is the incentive for you? I know you guys/gals work hard. I was once asked to be a mod, and I politely declined because I didn't want the responsibility. It's probably not as easy as you would think.

Speaking for myself, I am grateful for the VOLUNTEERS like you. It's not like it's a paid position or something.

On the otherhand, I can't seem to remember ever sounding polite or intelligent. :smirk:

Eh, I think I used to work hard but since my recent return, I've gotten pretty lazy. Most of the time, I forget that I'm a moderator. Thankfully the OTHER moderators are great. :fing02:

I have been on that forum for over six years and have gotten into plenty of debates and even a few outright arguments without getting banned or suspended. That forum is right-leaning (it's clear that I'm not) just like this one, but less extreme. If you think that no one challenges others there, then you would be completely wrong. You can look at today's posts and see people asking for sources of information.

As I said on the other forum, I've only seen spammers and completely insane people get banned i.e. the lady obsessed with suing SL because they failed her after she cheated. She started stalking one of the members. Then, there was the person who posted pictures of the KKK and swinging penises. You have to be far out there to get banned.

The difference there is that most of the discussions don't require much debate. If a course is cheaper, then it's cheaper. If TESU doesn't accept something, then it doesn't. On this forum, someone will bring up socialism, which will throw the whole thread completely off topic.

"You" was used in a general sense. The previous sentence said, "if anyone."

Those are the most recent threads as of this moment, which doesn't show the content of the posts; but, you're not helping your case. Most of those threads are not about education.

Hey, my daughter resembles that remark. She, a former homeschooler and all of 20 years of age, is finishing her undergrad in 3 weeks and starts an online masters in accounting through Auburn in January. By the way, she's graduating summa. How about that? No one in the family going back forever has graduated summa, not even my brilliant wife ("just" magna). I'm an insufferably proud blowhard father.

All that list shows is that Abner likes to make new threads, which is not and never will be against the rules, so there's nothing else to address there.

@sanantone If you don't like Abner's threads, fine, you can go ahead and make your own. If you don't want to make your own, then that makes you part of the supposed problem that you are currently complaining about.

This forum is extreme right-leaning? Dang, I'm not even a right winger but I never noticed that. Sure, you have your right wingers like Me Again and a few others, but there are left wingers also. Stanislav leans left and Abner's left of center, and I'm fairly apolitical anymore but told friends and family I'd become an expatriate if Trump were elected (but I didn't exactly follow up), so it's not exactly like I'm some kind of Roy Moore good ol boy myself. I always thought this forum was center left/moderate.

Thanks to both of you, Abner and Phdtobe. It's the culmination of a lot of hard work on her part and her having her mamma's math brain. She always went into classes with the attitude that she was the dumbest person there and if only she worked hard enough, that no one would discover her dark secret. She studied all the time AND did all-nighters. Not many kids willing to work that hard, I know I wasn't that hard a worker 30 years ago. She wanted to go to a better-known school for masters than Directional State U where I teach and she matriculated, so Auburn it was. We'll now have the online masters in common. I told her that sometimes online classes, the profs often make them tougher than the classes in the classroom, but she's the perfect candidate because she works her butt off. Proud father I am!

Nope. I answer people's questions when I believe I have valuable information. I don't start as many threads here as I used to because I usually get more responses on City-Data or Degreeforum.

I don't really have a problem with the low activity because I visit other forums. I'm just responding to someone who pointed out that activity has dropped.

    ABD, Sanantone?

    Okay, I can’t resist this one anymore . . .

I happen to like Sanantone, even though she has indicated on the oft-unnamed “other forum” that she does not like me. (No big whoop.) And especially since she is a multiple-degree grad of my own B.A. alma mater with whom I generally agree on social and political issues.

But I do have to wonder, what is the meaning of "Texas State University – PhD CJ (ABD)?” Most people who are in a doctoral program and reach the ABD phase list their status as “Ph.D. (Cand.),” not ABD. And those I know who list themselves as ABD have, in fact, dropped out of their Ph.D. program for one reason or another.

So I am compelled to ask Sanantone (not that the answer matters regarding her intrinsic credibility): Are you, in fact, still actively pursuing your Ph.D. at Texas State, or did you reach the candidacy phase and then, for lack of a better term, crap out of the program?

Other than that, as Billy Joel wrote, “Don’t go changin’ to try and please me.” I thoroughly enjoy when you and Bruce go at it against each other, especially since you’re both in the CJ field in one way or another.

In an unrelated observation (but more on topic to the O.P.), has anyone noticed that we haven’t heard from Bruce recently? Both he and Kizmet are currently in absentia, and they both live in Massachusetts. Is there a connection? Inquiring readers want to know.
