Ah, "Muslin leaders", our new moral arbiters and role models. How had the mighty fallen...

In any case, the order is suspended; Trump is livid. We'll see how it goes. Meanwhile, Donald Trump immigration ban gives terrorists more propaganda, John McCain says - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). I liked this:
"This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security."
    And:
"At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies."

I do not know what you imagine the region is like, but I think Iran for one is akin to Fidel's Cuba or later-stage Soviet Union. Oppressive regime in a relatively modern country, where most of the population is faking compliance with the Thought Police. Ideological overlords must be grateful for help in keeping sheep in the herd, and discrediting pro-Western opposition.

I see you used the "we"ll" there in your opening rant. Except your not an American. Stop acting as if you are, stop telling Americans how to feel and act.

You do understand that most of the people arguing in this thread with you are not even Americans? This what we are literally fighting against in our country, sovereignty.

He's actually talking about University of Toronto and I believe that he now lives in Canada...so...it works.

Rioting anti-Trump protestors are wearing masks

Many of the violent and destructive anti-Trump protesters (such as at Berkley and elsewhere) are wearing:
    - black masks or bandanas over their faces
    - uniformly dark clothing

They are the new leftist, Nazi-like, tan shirts.

That is actually quite big of you; makes me reluctant to make as much fun of you for using the word "sovereignty"; I'll just note that electing агент Апельсин is indeed one way to fight against it like you said, and that the official term for Putinist ideology is "sovereign democracy". It wouldn't be this perfect if I made it up.

Yes, I'm sure Canada will help itself to some quality international students, thank you.
In fact, and pivoting to Canadian politics: remember how Trudeau ran and won on ramping up bringing Syrian refugees? That is one promise he actually kept BTW, to the public approval. It would be a strong move to ramp it up again to pick up the slack for America (subject to your judiciary review of course). Come to think of it, we take in the biggest number of immigrants per capita in the world, and always worry about how they'd integrate; there are no more "integratable" potential immigrants than DACA recipients. If Trump'll kill that program as promised, we could scoop them up as well. I don't thikn Captain Selfie has it in him to be this on the nose to Trump. His dad once sent military transports to pick up Ugandan Ismailis; Justin still has use of Aga Khan's private helicopter thanks to that; but Justin is no Pierre.

Actually, one thing about immigrants - our network spans the borders; I have many friends and even family south of the border. Actually, I have friends, relatives, and classmates also in Britain, Australia, Germany, Ireland, and Poland. Gives perspective. BTW, my renewed appreciation for Canada aside, I think USA is still, on balance, the best country in the world. Presidents come and go, and the current one lost the popular vote.

Petition seeks to prohibit Donald Trump from entering Canada until he withdraws travel ban | Globalnews.ca
This will clearly go nowhere, but fun to ponder.

I was thinking about starting a petition calling for renaming Trump International Hotel and Tower in Toronto, because it is clearly a potential terrorism magnet. However, apparently it is in receivership and is being sold (it wasn't actually owned by Trump - one of his naming&management deals), and the new owner has no plans to keep the name anyway. Besides, Angus Reid did a survey months ago, and it seems Canadians agree with me :).

You bet the USA is still the best country in the world. Despite Trump, and alt right President Bannon, progress will continue to reflect the ever changing population. It's just the natural orders of things. Many would like to go back to the 1950's I suppose, but that's just not going to happen.

    Here is one such change:

In policy shift, New York Police Department to allow beards, turbans for religious officers - LA Times

"The move comes amid a spike in hate crimes toward Muslims following the presidential election of Donald Trump, as well as an effort by the NYPD — and police departments across the country — to improve police-community relations."

Like you said, Presidents come and go, but progress will continue no matter what. I have never been more proud to be an American. I see people rising up unlike any other time in my lifetime, and it that is about as American as it gets. Thank God this is not Trump's beloved Russia, where you get shot in the back of the head for speaking out against your leaders.

And for the record. I hear a lot of talk about "foreigners", but I don't hear a lot of concern of Russia meddling with our elections. Gee, I wonder why?

God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Viva USA!!!!!!!!

The rationale for this development is a bit odd considering that the vast majority of Turban-wearing men are actually Sikhs.

Yes, odd, almost as if New York is aiming at promoting diversity and reducing religious discrimination, rather than appeasing Muslims like we all know they want. Incomprehensible.

Interesting bit on refugees: http://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2017/2/6/14516520/refugee-asylum-demographics-muslim-christian. One highlight: a third of Iraqi and majority of Iranian refugees are Christians; Iranian ones are incredibly well-educated as a group (and 43% of them are Armenians, arguably the oldest Christian nation in the world). BTW, my Iraqi friends are Azeri, very secular, and a majority of the family are successful professionals. Stereotypes make you stupid.

    1. The order "temporarily" bans people from the seven most terror-producing countries.

    - Leftist "fake news" is reporting that it's a religious Muslim ban.

    - Larger more populous Muslim nations are not on the ban list and may still legally enter the U.S.

    2. The "temporary ban" was designed and previously used by Obama. Trump invoked Obama's ban.

    3. The "temporary ban" will be reinstated. There are no ifs, ands or buts. Not even a maybe.

    4. One of the chief Constitutional functions of the federal government is to protect the borders of the U.S.

No it wasn't. No he didn't.
It is amazing how Trump can deputise decent people to lie on his behalf. Putinesque.

Obama administration originally flagged 7 countries in Trump's order: click here

Obama’s administration made the ban possible - and the mainstream media won’t tell you: click here

Thanks for providing links: this is a very good illustration of what supporting Trump does to people. The first link is just Spicer repeating talking points you already provide. Second one is more interesting, as it shows exactly where Obama flagged these 7 countries. To wit:
There is even a helpful link to the official website, here.
So, this refers to new rules for participation in Visa Waiver Program. What countries' nationals are eligible for VWP? These ones:
Do changed rules ban anyone? No they do not: they just stipulate that citizens of the above countries who visited "high-risk" ones would need to get a visa from consulate. Also, everyone else must register their travel online, allowing both automated screening and heads-up to DHS authorities before one's travel. Citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, or Yemen were allowed to TRAVEL to the USA, as usual, after getting a visa at the consulate, with consular officers charged under the ITA to screen out persons who are a potential threat. Just like before, and in any nation other than WVP countries and Canada. When they got visa, they present it at the Port of Entry, where CBP officers (DHS department independent from visa officers who work for the Department of State) have another opportunity to screen entrants. Clear enough?

Similarly, Obama did NOT ban Iraqi refugees after "Bowling Green massacre"; he revised screening rules, following FBI successfully baiting two Iraqis into, as they thought, providing support to Iraqi militants. This resulted in a temporary drop in refugee admissions; no cleared refugees were turned down at the border like last week. Actually, due to U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Iraqi refugees are remarkably different demographically from both Iraqi population and the Islamists (read my link above), and look like quite a bargain for the "melting pot", second only to Iranian refugees.

Trump policy is NOT a continuation of Obama policy in any way, shape, or form. So either you are misled by the first link and believe the second one proves your point. Or you read the second link and think it proves your point; great Orwellian "crimestop". Or you try to con people on this forum with wall-of-text references, believing you must help Spicer con the nation for some higher cause. This last possibility is how most Russian Internet discussants behave: lying "for their country".

It's not a question of "if" it will be reinstated, but it's a question of "when."

Stanislav, the temporary ban will be reinstated. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it (not even a maybe). It's not a question of "if" it will be reinstated, but it's a question of "when" it will be reinstated. One of the main responsibilities of the U.S. Constitution is the protection of the borders of the nation. It's a sovereign right.

You missed this part of the article:

Muslims and Sikhs are two different populations that you may want to read up on.

    So, yeah. Odd.

Nice attempted smokescreen with the flowery language ("breathing the air of anxiety").

If you truly and honestly think that the people who want to crash airliners into our skyscrapers (9/11), shoot-up our nightclubs (Miami), and blow up our citizens at public events (Boston Marathon) will stop hating us and trying to kill us, if only we allow all their family and friends unfettered access to come to the United States, then that's further validation of Rush Limbaugh's theory that liberalism is a mental disorder.
