My personal favorite: Chuck Norris doesn't do push ups. He pushes the entire planet of Earth down.

Maybe I didn't read it well enough, but I didn't find any Chuck Norris Facts having to do with DL.

That's because Chuck Norris doesn't learn from a distance. Chuck Norris strikes from a distance.

    There aren't. It's an off-topic joke.

Incidentally, Chuck Norris has extended his career recently by poking fun at himself.

Distance learning competes with bricks and mortar. Chuck Norris eats bricks and mortar for breakfast.

Well, I like both Rich and Jagmct1. I fail to see how "If Rich had done his research" is construed as a personal attack. I personally think speculation of the DETC accreditation process without personally knowing all the facts involved at each school is premature. I would think DETC ensured the schools in question met their accreditation requirements and procedures in order to even consider granting NA accreditation. To think otherwise is speculative at best. This is just my humble opinion of course.

    Take care fellers!

It was a joke, referencing the endlessly forwarded e-mails that basically say Chuck Norris is such a badass, nothing happens without his approval and/or involvement.

If Chuck Norris was only a badass he would kick all our butts but he's not, he's a super badass and will force us to kick our own butts.

It's true. Chuck Norris' DL program doesn't need the internet. If he wants you to know something, you'll find out soon enough.

In other words, because he strikes from a distance, he teaches lessons from a distance.

I had never heard of Perelandra College before and was interested to see that they have a Masters program in Creative Writing. There are very few of those that can be completed entirely through distance learning. I'll be checking on the details. Thanks for the update.

Allied American University is an interesting choice, too. They offer a BA in General Studies, which you don't see offered any many DETC accredited schools. They accept military training credit, and they have payment plans. Their web site is VERY light on information, such as how many credits must be earned from Allied, maximum transfer credit and how exams are administered. Their programs are delivered completely online.

Personally I have always been fond of the DETC and believe that they have often led the charge in the field of accrediting distance education programs. I think it is safe to say that distance learning would not be where it is now without the DETC and I do not believe that without demonstrable success from like institutions that the regional accrediting bodies would have been so keen to accredit schools like Northcentral University for example.

Now I’m not trying to bag on anyone one school, but I don’t think anything the DETC has done or will do will hurt distance education quite as much as schools like the University of Phoenix have and as we all know, they are regionally accredited. So I guess you can say there are things that are distasteful to us on the NA and RA side of the house when accrediting schools that some of us would question. Personally I am thankful for the DETC and congratulate these new schools for reaching the goal of recognized accreditation. I’m sure it was not the quickest and easiest path.

I’m curious as to how the DETC doctorates will be received in academia and the real world as it certainly is a bit of a creep up the steps of the heretofore exclusivity of the ivory tower.

They've been around the California-approved world for a while. As their name suggests, they are inspired by C.S. Lewis and their creative writing masters has a distinct Christian emphasis.

I'll second that. I am a big DETC fan myself. Without the affordable (well, many are, but not all) programs offered by the schools they accredit, I would never have been able to afford to pursue higher education the past couple of years. The program offerings they approve are very interesting, and in some cases, unique. I also believe that the DETC has played a major role in advancing distance education.

Like I said, I hope schools like the former Barrington University have made major, extensive changes which warrant the accreditation. Since they were accredited by the DETC, I'm sure they have. I don't think the DETC "rubber stamps" the approval of any school. I think Barrington/University of Atlanta's major challenge is going to be overcoming its history.
