"Degree Mills" Argument Dump Thread

I think I've almost got it figured out. Go to the user's profile. Next to the user's name, there is an icon of a pencil. Clicking on this brings up "Edit User Profile." On the user profile, you'll see the words "Registered User" (with a dot inside the bubble) and "Custom User Title" (without the dot in the bubble). This puts the words "Registered User" in an editable box. Delete "Registered User" and type in "Distinguished Senior Member" or "God of Distance Learning" or whatever Rich wants. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is what button to push in order to put the newly bestowed title into effect.

 

Where can I find this backlog of people wanting titles bestowed?

 

What is WITH some moderators? Where did this come from?

 

I'm not one of them. In fact, I joked about it in this thread and someone named "Maniac Craniac" decided post something stupid. Weird.

 

Instead of cooling down, perhaps "he" would be better off smartening up? Or is that inappropriate for someone moderating a board ostensibly about education?

If Moderators moderated moderately, there would be far fewer disagreements such as this. But when they use privileged statuses as bully pulpits, I don't intend to accept that. But if they did (and we're only talking about one seriously and one slightly, right?), there would be no conflict. I don't make it a point to attack moderators, but neither will I accept their bullying.

I'll play it either way.

If he/she/it would stop unilaterally attacking me, then I'll stop--I would have no reason to respond. If not, you'll have to decide if the tone Kizmet sets is what you want for this board. And seeing that I've been here since its inception, I'd like to think I have a little bit of insight into that. Just sayin'.....

 

Why don't you let it stop with you? I think you are a bigger man than that. I respect you and your intellect and I think you can rise above. I will speak to all of the moderators and ask them to do the same. Fair enough?

Kizmet is a moderator. If you have an issue with the way Kizmet is moderating, or you feel that Kizmet is singling you out or otherwise treating you unfairly, please PM Kizmet or PM me individually and raise the specific concerns you have. The reality is, our moderation team (myself included) can get snarky at times, but I think all of us are adult enough to own it when it happens and make necessary corrections to our behavior.

But it is absolutely not appropriate for you, Rich, to bring up such things within a thread. Those are off-topic to the thread, and have no business in the public forums at all.

While I agree there is some snark within this thread that isn't necessary, I really need to ask everybody to just cut it the fuck out. Jesus. There's really no need for this, and shouldn't be any need for me to step in and say this either.

 

It cuts both ways, Chip. Read what Kizmet posts unilaterally, without provocation. Routinely OT and personal, using a position as Moderator as a club. Enough said, I'm sure.

 

I won't say this again. If you have an issue with it, take it to PM, either to the mod in question, or to me. Further failure to follow that policy will not yield a happy result.
