The good thing about Aston is that they are triple-accredited: EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA.

The tuition is about 3000 pounds/year... which is about $6300 Canadian.... fairly reasonable.

NCU has been around for 10 years. It has accomplished much in recognition within this short period of time. If and when NCU recieve ACBSP accreditation, the school will gain more credibility. The school is also building an impressive world headquarters. I believe once the new building is up and operational, the university will initiated needed and competitive academic changes.

Very nice. Now you just need to drag out your program long enough for USQ to get AACSB before you graduate.

I am hoping to do the same for NCU to get ACBSP.

Thanks for the good discussion and wish you the best if your doctoral studies. I personally don't believe much in the paper but in the individual behind the paper.

The best thing about NCU being a candidate for ACBSP is that the Director of Accreditation from ACBSP is also a doctoral student at NCU. :D

The accreditations are nice, but it is the person that makes the difference.

Good luck to you and your studies.

While the availability of courses at B&M universities in the summer is less than during the year, to say they offer nothing is just not true. Some courses offered are ONLY available in the summer. (such as the case with UF)

Also, summer is typically one of the busiest times of year for a B&M doctoral student because of conferences, research, and teaching. Many faculty are on 9 month appointments, so graduate TAs often take up the slack.

    UK Research Doctoral Program

Wow, my head hurts so badly, I need some help here finding a suitable school in the UK, it doesn't have to be an AACSB accredited doctorate program. I need something to fill my time like a research degree at the doctoral level, in business/management. I have had a long look at UNISA (Zulu wouldn't answer any of my email requests) but before I make a commitment I would like to exhaust the possibilities in the UK.

    Here goes:
    -Doctoral Level
    -Distance/Online
    -Research only
-No AASCB required - I have been offered a teaching position based on my Economics/Engineering and MBA degrees plus some of the professional titles that I currently hold
    -short or no residency
-reasonable cost based on research only status

I'm interested in writing one more paper having enjoyed completing a dissertation recently. I can teach now but I might like to go back to consulting work. I'm not getting any younger and don't need a major 5-year challenge right now. I have plenty of time and resources to complete the paper in short order.

Has anyone come across something that might work for a middle-aged student?
    Thanks!

Interesting discussion. My conversations\previous obsevations have found the following to be true:

    1. AACSB does NOT require the business doctorate degree to be AACSB accredited for teaching purposes.

    2. The Regional Accrediting agencies do NOT require the business doctorate to be AACSB\ACBSP for teaching purposes.

    3. The accrediting agencies consider the DBA and the PhD to be equal as far as requirements for accrediation.

    Any errors in the above?

AACSB might not require the business doctorate to be accredited for teaching within a AACSB program, but many business schools do require it.

    Re: UK Research Doctoral Program

Aston Business School (PhD & DBA)
    Henley Management College (DBA)
    Manchester Business School (DBA)

All the above-mentioned UK business schools offer external research doctorates that are AACSB-accredited. The do require varying levels of residency.

Though it is not a requirement - EVERY AACSB school that I have applied to for teaching (part time or full time) has either put that your degree(s) need to be from a AACSB school, or "strongly preferred".

I agree. More and more this is becoming a requirement. AACSB is quickly becoming the gold standard for business education. If you're going to spend the time and money to get a doctorate, you might as well get an AACSB-accredited one. You won't regret it.

    Scott,

Are you currently working on a PhD or a DBA from Aston Business School?

I would appreciate it if someone could respond to my post above, I'm not interested in AACSB, I would liike the best value in a UK school, doing a research only PHD/Doctorate, with few if any visits and at a reasonable cost. I'm really interested in writing another paper. Thanks.

What is best value - what are the criteria? If 3000 pounds too much, what is your range of reasonable costs - 1,000 pounds, 2,000 pounds?

I think you are asking, school that meet:
    1. UK School
    2. Few to no visits
    3. Reasonable costs (need more definition here)

"I think you are asking, school that meet:"

    I'll try again:
    1. UK School
    2. Few Visits, prefer no visits until paper is submitted
    3. Research ONLY
    4. NO AACSB - I don't need this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    5. Reasonable cost - as it relates to a RESEARCH ONLY Doctoral degree

I don't need an accredited degree, I just want to find a UK University that offers an online/distance doctoral degree that is not considered a diploma mill. The school has to be legal, offer a PhD level research program. Much like my reference to UNISA, you don't have to travel to Africa to start the program, just submit your topic and get on with it. The cost should be reasonable, it would be difficult to accept paying $ 50,000 for a non-AACSB degree that is research ONLY centered. Something like $ 15,000 - $ 20,000 for a legit school. The idea here is to create an opportunity to write a Thesis at a UK school without several years of prep work as I have already written a peer-reviewed paper to date.

    Hope this helps!

If non-AACSB and DL only are key, perhaps thinking outside the box and consider the Far Eastern National University (FENU) was established 105 years ago and ranked among the top 5 Russian universities...

    http://en.openuniversity.ru/

    Cost is dirt cheap...
