I'm on wireless PDA, so I'll keep this brief.

What Gus said. I was banned because I contested statements about the validity of degree mills being promoted, especially the board's sacred cow, Knightsbridge. (Bear once called it a one-man university; nothing's changed there.)

Collegehints' definition of a degree mill was highly suspect.

Finally, the moderation was highly selective.

Some egos here and elsewhere could do with a bit of chopping: millists and opponents often seem to take themselves way too seriously. Besides, everything written or said does not carry the same gravity. Satire can be funny or serious, perhaps both at the same time. Freedom to debate, even to express obnoxious opinions, is valuable. Intellectual monopolies are rarely so. The loss of other, even perhaps inferior DL sites, is unfortunate.

    No processes ??

Are you certain that there are NO academic processes ? Or just not those of which you or RA institutions would approve ? There IS a difference; the essence of philosophy is in distinction.

What personally amuses me was that the gist of opinions here and experts?? here are/were pretty much ridiculed. I love it.

There is a whole other world out there that doesn't follow the party line and they need a place to voice their opinion.

You must be a follower of the Art Garfunkel school, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls."

We're talking about an entire board that got "banned" (to use its own term when it kicked someone out). That's pretty funny. The garbage that spewed from that site has been judged, and it is outta here.

    Paul Simon, not Art Garfunkel.

Art is a terrific singer, but he didn't write songs. His most memorable tunes, for the most part, were written by Paul Simon or Jimmy Webb.

As far as anyone knows, submitting a phone book would accomplish the same thing. I'm not saying that's true, but there really isn't a way to know, and that's the whole point.

Knightsbridge sold a degree to someone who'd already used the work in question to get a Ph.D. at another degree mill. At that point, it wasn't original work, it was already applied to another "degree" program, and it wasn't done under the supervision of Knightsbridge (as if that process even exists). It wasn't a body of previously published works, so even that narrow concept (Ph.D. for published work) applied by a few recognized schools doesn't apply.

What Knightsbridge does is academically indefensible. Fortunately, no one recognizes Knightsbridge as a university--and it has no one to answer to--so it doesnt' matter. How convenient.

When Knightsbridge submits itself and its processes to a recognized body for evaluation, we'll see. But don't wait up.

Dr. Douglas, it it possible that if an entire board got banned, there may be some systematic predjudice at work--just a thought.
One question for you---why so much concern about what others think or say--if they are wrong, well they're wrong. Or is it possible that some of their points of view weren't so wrong and that's what burns you ?

You mean like all the innocent people in jail?! :) I sincerely think an alternate board would be great simply for additional points of view. So far there have been 4 incarnations, none of which had staying power. Exactly what do you think the conspiracy is? Hint: there isn't any. :) All have closed due to a lack of revenue because they end up not having a big footprint, no one willing to moderate fulltime without pay, and 100% TOS posting (online-college.info). Degreeinfo is one of very few sites that both professionals and consumers can come to and get accurate informed and varied points of view. While additional points of view would be help, I am glad Degreeinfo does a great job for all.

I wouldn't say conspiracy, but a very strong ideology. And I know that the moderation here doesn't like folks to mention that they have degrees from "mills" or the ULC, etc. Such confession can get one's account "disabled"---not offical banning, but more an unofficial silencing. My husband has been silenced here for daring to mention his "milled" degrees. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not for using fake degrees for employment or to commit fraud, but they do have other than fraudent uses, but the reaction here is so swift to pass judgement on anything that does not toe the (party)line on accreditation. And interpretation of words is always taken so literally, too. Is the board dominated by religious fundamentalists ?

I guess it has to be asked. Did you threaten the recently demised boards with a lawsuit?

What about DesElms--he said that he would see ot it that any other replacement boards would go under his personal supervision. You see what I mean about fundamentalist attitudes at this forum.

    Hi Rocco

You are connecting the dots, but are unfortunately incorrect in your assumptions. Like your husband, my account was accidently disabled. When I worked at getting it re-enable it was difficult not because of any agenda, but simply because these folks don't do this full time. It took me 4 emails and two seperate admins.

No one is disabled to silence them. That is not this board's style. In fact, they tend to be a little too lienent. Everyone gets at least one warning and is only banned after multiple TOS violations. There are many alternate views posted here: Dennis, Neil Hynd, Peter among others. There both very liberal and very conservative voices here.

I guess I would suggest not being so quick to make incorrect assumptions when views are different than your own.

Is Dr. Hayes really an academic fraud or just a bit "unconventional"? Is he really a fraud if he tells exactly under what conditions and from what institution he has obtained his degree? Nobody is obliged to accept the academic merit of that degree. Harvard grads look down of grads from the University of South Alabama, too, because it ain't Ivy League. Oxonians would laugh a some degrees boasted on this forum. We all know about academic snobbishness--but fraud is an attempt to snooker. Has Hayes lied about where or how he got the KU degree ?

    Hi Mrs. Evans!

  20. No.

If Dr. Hayes admits that Visa is the only legitimate instution involved in validating his qualifications for his degrees, then I guess we couldn't call him a fraud.
