Seen this mentioned more than once in the forums. Decided to dig into it and learned that, besides being comical, those that love to write, although not required, might really enjoy this honorary degree. Degrees: “Congratulations! Abide University will give you a free honorary degree today without any study or qualifications. Why? Well, we have several reasons. … Our degrees are in non-standard fields of study. You probably won’t find them offered by traditional universities. What we’re trying to do is encourage new types of inquiry and investigation that aim to improve our quality of life. … One could say that we take sort of a class-backwards approach towards the degree process: We first provide you the free degree, and then the responsibility is on you to study and contribute to our knowledge base, journal, and other publications and forums.” https://aui.me/degrees/ Departments: “Our various fields of study are fun and limber-minded. To suggest more, please visit our forum.” https://aui.me/departments/
Did you suggest one in their forum? They say that's the procedure if you want something new. I LIKE this place (Abide U.) Lots for old guys to do, there...
Cool! I visited the Comedy Museum in Jamestown last weekend. I think that’s worthy of a Masters in Comedic Science. If I go again and visit the Blue Room, maybe I can go for the PhD at that point.
Haha, you can change their degree offerings to whatever you want it to be by modifying the URL... I have an honorary doctorate in 'stupid stuff'... wow, that was fast! Link: Bryan Cheung just received a degree from Abide University (aui.me) Edit to Add: Anyone get the cheap ULC degree offerings way back when as well? I think it was just $25 back then and there were a few options too. What's the cost now for these type of vanity degrees?
Love it. When I told my husband about these, he actually asked if they had one in Underwater Basketweaving. Now he and SweetSecret can get one.
They're cheaper than I thought. The ever-awesome Doctor of The Universe is on sale for $49.95. About the same price will get you Doctor of Immortality, Doctor of Metaphysics and a few others. Mostly, you get the diploma but there's more. Actual course-books, maybe three of them, go with the degrees. I think a Jedi Knight cert. can be had for $10. Nice - I saw the pic. Doctor of Immortality interests me. The course-books are mostly about self-reliance, they say. I like that. Combined with Abide's Dudeism Studies, that could be a cool combo -might make me more interesting. https://store.ulc.net/ULC-Headquarters-Courses-s/1836.htm
Correction - it looks like course-books come with EVERY degree. I'm surprised I didn't see the usual Master's in Wicca. Maybe a student turned the whole program into a Toad by mistake -- or on purpose.
Yup, you can! We'll be the first three that got the degree in Underwater Basket Weaving... Bryan Cheung just received a degree from Abide University (aui.me)
At least one person is actively touting their Abide doctorate, "Dr" Jason Hansra: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasonhansra https://www.gbgrealtygroup.com/our-agents Except on his LinkedIn he is careful to never explain the source of his PhD.
On his bio, too. Doesn't even mention it. His website is an entertaining read, but I ain't havin' any of it. I rate this Dude a "flake." https://www.goodvibestrategies.com/about-dr-jason-s-hansra There is a Jason Hansra on FB who has a PhD in Christian Counseling. University of California, Berkeley, ... not being on FB, I don't know if this is the same person. Maybe someone who is on FB can check. The guy under discussion is Jason S. Hansra.
Jason S. Hanra's Linked in shows: A Bachelor's from U. Toronto (2, in fact) A bunch of certs including Harvard. A Master's from Oval College * ... And his Abide PhD. * No USDoE or CHEA recognized accreditation. Here's their Statement: "The College is accredited by the National Bible College Association, a Private Christian accreditation that is not recognized by the United States Department of Education However, the Oval Bible College grants religious degrees for the completion of religious education by the legislature of the State of Louisiana." (I take that to mean religious exemption.) Gotta go play my ukulele now - get in the Dude Zone....
Whenever I see a claim for a PhD without citing the source, I get suspicious. And, as a hobby, I check.
I would seriously question anyone who used the degree or title in any serious or professional capacity. I got my Abide degree specifically for forum signatures. Never ever for LinkedIn or any professional or academic capacity.
Sigh --- then you're obviously a LOT smarter than some other Abide PhDs, Vicki. But we knew that already.
