I do have a serious question / comment though. Do any of you listen to the Malcolm Gladwell podcast? This past season he gave a compelling argument that increased border control has INCREASED the number of undocumented/illegals in the USA. If you have a half hour, it's a position I hadn't considered before. http://revisionisthistory.com/episodes/25-general-chapman's-last-stand
Heck, if you want to see a real, live, functioning border wall, come visit my part of the world. They CALL it a "fence" but it's a 27 foot high steel wall coupled with extensive sensors and intensive patrols. It goes on for MILES. And it's been this way since long before Trump entered the White House.
Quite right nosborne. Trump is replacing one fence for another fence, no brick wall like he promised. Slight of hand, slippery terminology at best. Trumpers have been duped. Waste of taxpayers money to say the least.
17 hours ago:
The U.S. Senate just proposed giving 5 billion more dollars for continuing the construction of the wall this year. Just wait till next year in 2019.
Ah, in order to make it to specs Trump promised at his rallies, the funding so far is a drop in the bucket!
And most likely there are areas in rough terrain that can't be built upon, so they will remain fenceless. You can't build in a river for example.
Abner, how many rivers are in the desert? The Rio Grande is one. Abner, are you saying that the sheer number of rivers in the desert is going to prevent the construction of a completed wall?
It won't make matters easy or better than they are now, that's for sure. Not the beautiful brick and mortar wall Trump promised, that's for sure. Of course, nothing he says can be trusted so there you go!
Here is some music for you me again, rejoice in the fact that your little fence probably won't be completed during Trump's time in office.
And here is the thing as far as cost. Since it is a government contract job, prevailing wage salaries must be paid, thus making the bill even higher.
Abner, are you saying that you do not want a border wall to keep out illegal aliens from entering the United States?
I was born raised in Socal. Undocumented workers have never been a problem that I can complain about. I notice you love to use the term "Illegal aliens, just like the rest of the MAGA Qbert clan. They are not aliens from outerspace. Your stance and verbiage doesn't sound very Christian to me.
Abner, the term "illegal alien" is the law of the land. It is a statutory description that is codified in the United States Code (USC). Here is an excerpt from 2 USC 658:
...the control of borders by the Federal Government; or reimbursement to State, local, or tribal governments for the net cost associated with illegal, deportable, and excludable aliens, including court-mandated expenses related to emergency health care, education or criminal justice; when such a reduction or elimination would result in increased net costs to State, local, or tribal governments in providing education or emergency health care to, or incarceration of, illegal aliens; except that this subclause shall not be in effect with respect to a State, local, or tribal government, to the extent that such government has not fully cooperated in the efforts of the Federal Government to locate, apprehend, and deport illegal aliens...
Abner, you may read more about "illegal aliens" in the United States Code at this link:
I am well aware of the origins. At this point in time, I view it as Dog whistle language, and nobody but racist assholes use the term anymore.
Abner, you are accusing United States citizens who use lawful language of being "un-Christian racist assholes."
You read what I wrote. The only folks left who insist on using such language tend to be racist assholes. The other percentage may just be old white farts who cannot keep up with such terms. You probably fall in to that category.
Does a day go by when you do not violate the forum TOS?
Calling and old white man a white old fart is not something I would consider a violation of TOS. It is just a description of a crankey "old" dude, don't be so sensitive. I thought you guys were against being PC. Or does that just apply to your President?
I am personally familiar with significant stretches of the border country between middle southern Arizona and the Big Bend country in Texas. I wonder if the Build the Wall advocates understand the vast emptiness they propose to wall off? The biggest barrier to crossers in that country won't be any brick and mortar wall. The desert itself kills them. The desert is too huge to tunnel under or fly over undetected. Motor vehicles find few roads and those few roads are patrolled by air. No, you have to WALK to have any hope at all of succeeding. And your chances of living long enough to be rescued are rather poor if anything goes wrong.
The whole thing seems like such a waste of taxpayer money.
