    Rich and Bruce

Rich, You know I like you and have ever since I joined this board three years ago. You are, of course, an acknowledged expert in the field of accreditation and distance education. And, of course, you probably remember my having stated (in some long ago post) my desire to some day earn a doctorate in history from Union (which causes me to worship actual Union docs as gods of distance learning). Bruce, I don't know if you've figured it out yet, but I actually like you too.

That having been said, I would like to point out to Rich, in regards to his comment that Bruce is a power-hungry and abusive clown, that once upon a time, about three years ago, some idiot newbie stumbled onto this board and, heedless of the occupations of any of the three mods at the time (BGossett, Bruce, and Chip), charged onto Political and Off-Topics Discussions, found a thread about some cop who arrested a five-year-old, and promptly declared (without even watching the video) that any cop who would arrest a five-year-old must be a friggin' child abuser. I submit to you that if Bruce (who is both a cop and a mod) were really a power-hungry and abusive clown, that idiot newbie would not have lasted three years and close to 6000 posts to become Distinguished Senior Member.

I can't speak for all branches of service, but when I was in the army (83-86) pay grade E3 was the rank Private First Class. Here is what I recall for the enlisted pay grades/ranks:

    E1 Private
    E2 Private
    E3 Private First Class
E4 Specialist or Corporal (Corporal is for one in a leadership position, perhaps team leader)
    E5 Sergeant
    E6 Staff Sergeant
    E7 Sergeant First Class
E8 Master Sergeant or First Sergeant (FS is in charge of a company)
    E9 Sergeant Major
I don't recall if Command Sergeant Major was E9 or not.

There was also increased pay for years in service. I recall a guy of the same rank as myself but with greater pay as he had several years in the National Guard before going Active Army.

Interesting. In terms of number of posts, I believe I've always been the leader, yet I remain a "Registered User." I wonder how that works.

Oh, thanks. I'm fine with what I have.

When something changed on this board and the titles changed to Registered User (rather than Junior Member, Member, and Senior Member), I made some facetious comment about not being happy being no longer a Senior Member. It happened to be my birthday that day and Bruce conferred upon me the title of Distinguished Senior Member. It is possible to ask Bruce to change your title for you (or perhaps you could even change it yourself, I'm not sure). But I don't see why anyone would dispute you taking some title more exalted than Distinguished Senior Member, if you'd like.

One of my children had pneumonia Rich, so responding to an Internet posting wasn't at the top of my priority list.

Unless anyone else wants the last word, this thread will be closed by tonight.
