I found this school has earned Accreditation from South Africa.

Also, I found they posted a webpage of what was required of the ASIC accreditation.

So the claim to SA accreditation is fake? They have an app in with Tracs as well.

P.S. That link is to a liar and a fraud. She claims to be a victim, forced to work and slave away...yet her story has been refuted by tons of people. That being said, I do not like the MC.

I have no idea whether their SA claim is fake or legit nor do I have any interest in the claim. But riddle me this: Why would a U.S. school claim to have SA accreditation? That makes about as much sense as West Coast BC&S being located in Texas. As for "an app in with TRACS," that means nothing. Any school can apply to any accreditor, yet they might still have a snowball's chance in the proverbial lake of fire and brimstone of actually achieving accreditation.

Keep in mind that I am, and have always been, "RA or the highway." Anything on top of RA (such as recognized professional accreditations, which generally always accompany RA status) is the icing on the cake. Anything short of RA is more bullshit.

I have no idea whether she's a liar or fraud, but merely cited this as a piece about West Coast. I would certainly take issue with your statement about refutation by "tons of people." You provide no evidence for this, which makes your allegation meaningless. As for the writer and the MC, I think they're bullshit, too.

I stand by my original statement: West Coast is a bullshit school. (I know, y'all, I seem to be using the word bullshit a lot lately. But it's about time we begin to call these things what they are.)

And the phrases "online college," "online seminary," and "online university?" You guessed it - also bullshit. I wanna see some freakin' ivy covering them halls of academe, and you don't find that online.

You know something doc? I spent 10 years a B&M college, and the in person experience was great. The online thing wasn't quite the same. Many people still see online as bullshit, so you are not alone.. There is nothing like the in-person experience to be honest. As most know, two of my degrees are online. I have no dogs in this race, or whatever it is they say.

    Hummm...

Starting June 16, 2017, we will not be accepting Masters or Doctoral applications, as we have decided to temporarily suspend new applications in these programs to place our total focus on achieving undergraduate accreditation. Given the fact that over 90% of our student population is undergraduate, and given the expense of accreditation, the board of directors and administration agreed this would be the most prudent course of action for now. IMPORTANT: This WILL NOT affect anyone in one of our current graduate programs, as we are committed to "teaching out" each program. Nothing will change for you and all classes currently available will still be offered. Then, when the time is appropriate, we will add the masters and doctoral programs back and apply for accreditation at a later date. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone, but we truly believe it is in the best long-term interest of West Coast Bible College & Seminary.

It most certainly has NOT. It has merely applied. From the home page: "WCBCS Applies for Accreditation with the Council on Higher Education in South Africa (CHE)"
All it has done so far is submit some forms. Please read more carefully. It's all here: WC Home

It appears to have obtained accreditation from ASIC, which is a British firm, and something from QISAN, which I'm (reliably) told is an ASIC affiliate. That's it.

A savvy quote from Dr. Rich Douglas, in another ASIC thread:

"ASIC accreditation is meaningless as it applies to whether or not a school is considered a university and whether or not the degrees it issues will be considered comparable to those issued by other, properly recognized, universities." That's from here: http://www.degreeinfo.com/accreditation-discussions-ra-detc-state-approval-unaccredited-schools/51414-asic-end-run-around-recognized-accreditation.html

Yes - meaningless. That's a word I've often seen used in conjunction with ASIC accreditation. In one of several DI examples, the same two words, "ASIC" and "meaningless" are juxtaposed a couple of times in this thread :http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/54836-sabi-university.html

Shame on me. My bad. I should take my own advice. Turns out that it is accredited by a SA Authority (Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority in South Africa (HWSETA) to offer first-year diplomas to African ministers-in-training. Apologies to b4cz28.

As I said, it is not accredited by South Africa's Council on Higher Education, CHE. It has submitted some forms re: an application.

I also believe that they have made a great deal of progress towards TRACS. I think they had a site visit.

    Tracs

I had noticed they were reporting about TRACS progress (and how much it cost) and then it was no longer on their accreditation page recently. That seems to be when the "Council on Higher Education in South Africa (CHE)" pursuit appeared.

ALso, is the HWSETA only for first year students?

ASIC and QISAN are run by the same people and from the same address. The third leg of the tripod is a certification body called ASIQUAL.

The West Coast Bible site says its HWSETA accreditation is for first year. They also show the certificate.

From the site: "This accreditation covers the first-year diploma degree to prepare students for ministry in Africa."

The accreditation cert. is here. It says basically that the school is accredited to provide training as registered with HWSETA.

Well then, why would a SA school claim to have U.S. accreditation - but at least one did; for years, UNISA was accredited by DETC (now DEAC) in addition to its own lofty credentials. That was likely a marketing move to make U.S. students comfortable - a move UNISA no longer needs, so it was dropped. UNISA's reputation is solid, this side of the pond.

This particular move by West Coast - I can think of several possible motives. Don't know which (if any) apply, because I don't know what goes on in the hearts and minds of the people who run the school. Maybe you do, Steve.

    (1) Perhaps they want many South African students; their prices seem geared to that market ($1,000 BA.) Maybe they want these SA students to be confident with accreditation from their homeland.

    (2) They know SA universities have a good (and still growing) reputation at home and abroad - including religious schools. Perhaps they think SA accreditation will assure them a place in the very respectable pantheon of SA-accredited schools.

    (3) This is pure speculation, but perhaps they think SA accreditation might be cheaper and/or easier to get than the U.S. variety. It might cost less, I have no idea, but I'm sure CHE and SAQA will cure them of any mistaken conjecture (if such exists) about its being easy. It won't be.

    (4) Could be something else entirely. Who knows? Not old Johann, certainly. He knows nothing.

Or it's as simple as the fact they have a location in SA and had to get it lol.

Yes - as usual, I overlooked the simplest answer. They have a South African HQ. They are registered as a non-profit in SA as well. They even have a special deal for African ministers. Tuition for any degree they wish to enrol in, from Bachelor's to Doctorate, $300 complete.

    Here's the SA site: www.mywc.co.za

I have no idea of the address in SA. I'm sure the President of the WC Africa school, Fanie Mqira, would know. So would CIPRO - The Companies and Intellectual Properties Registration Office.

Apply -yes. Nobody can stop you. Will the school let you enrol? I have no idea. They do get to keep your application fee, ($75) I guess. First you pay the fee, then you get access to the application. That's how (they say) it works. Please let us know how you get along.

PS. I believe their SA site is in the Johannesburg area. I don't have the address.

WHOIS lists the Texas people as admins etc. for the SA school site - "Kevin Harrison, West Coast Bible College & Seminary, 1301 Bateman Lane, Celina TX." I do think, however, that Dr. Fanie Mqira, the President of WCBC South Africa (his doctorate is from WCBC) heads the SA operation from somewhere in the Johannesburg area. His Linked-in profile would seem to indicate that.
