His demands like NATO promising to never allow Ukraine or any other country that Russia thinks they should have control over into NATO will never be agreed to. Like his demand that NATO forces must pull back to 1997 borders is ridiculous. Putin has to know those things would never be agreed to. Of course if he doesn't attack he can simply say that all he ever really wanted was X and he got X. X can be absolutely anything that he chooses at the end of the day.

I don't think he will attack but I do see him taking Donbass and other areas. Like he did in the past.
First they will be declared as independent "state" then they will join RF.
Chunk by chunk they will be unfortunatly devoure portions of Ukraine.

On a positive note I see US and other countries providing Ukraine strong support.

In support of Lerner's last post, I saw one news report that stated in certain parts of Ukraine like the Donbass area, that 20% of the population would like to be part of Russia, 20% of the population would like to have a sovereign Ukraine and 60% are good either way. That makes those parts of Ukraine ripe for the picking from the Russian point of view.

During my time at Peace Corps Headquarters (2006 - 2010), Ukraine (by number of Volunteers) was the largest Peace Corps host county. Peace Corps Russia had closed down a few years prior to me joining Peace Corps Staff. Perhaps I've missed it but, I have yet to read any reports of Peace Corps Volunteers and Staff evaluations from Ukraine, which would be the normal procedure in times of immenent conflict.

Separatists in eastern Ukraine evacuate civilians to Russia, Kiev denies: "There is no intention to attack" but Russian media provides footage of ceasefire violations in the Donbass region continue for the second day in a row, and rebel leaders have announced the evacuation of residents to Russia, in another move that could provide grounds for invasion. Ukraine accuses Moscow of spreading disinformation, Putin: it must sit down and talk to the rebels. Russia in the district, it creates deliberate escalation - as part of Operation False Flag - and disseminates false information. This is to justify her direct intervention in the conflict that began in 2014 and claimed the lives of about 15,000 people. At the door of President Vladimir Putin is a proposal to recognize the independence of the separatist districts that was approved this week in parliament. Its approval will constitute a serious violation of the agreements and will in fact put an end to the peace process.

There are a LOT of civilians still in the occupied territory. This evacuation is in all likelihood for propaganda purposes. Some say that Russians would stage a "Ukrainian" attack blowing up a bus with evacuees as a pretext for full-scale invasion. Sounds horrible andf crazy, but knowing Putin, actually plausible. He came to power after suspicious bombings in Moscow; how much less does he care about a bus of randos from Luhansk...

I almost wonder if this Ukraine episode might just be part of Putin’s exit plan. While he might believe he can control the reigns of power indefinitely, while alive, he’s likely at the age where he’s starting to become overly concerned over protecting his daughters and their wealth - when he’s no longer there.

Okay I guess the plan is becoming a bit clearer now. Putting is fomenting a carefully controlled civil war in eastern Ukraine. He will offer lots of covert and not so covert support to a puppet revolutionary government but won't (too obviously) actually invade. Crimea Plan redux. Best guess is that he isn't currently seeking the whole country. Just the eastern half.

It was likely a typo or an automatic spelling correction oops but I'm loving it. That is Putin->Putting. Along that same line of thought perhaps we could all agree to call him Vladimir Pudding in this thread? Or we could keep true to Nosborne's post and go with Vladimir Putting? It's probably best to just let folks use which ever strikes their fancy at the time of posting?

Hasn't he been overtly supporting the separatists in Eastern Ukraine since like 2014?

The correct term is Хуйло (Khuylo). Sometimes Vladimir Khuylo.

Yes Putin Khuylo has been overtly supporting separatist in Eastern Ukraine since 2014. Also overtly shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Eastern Ukraine since like July 2014 and murdering some 298 people.

Putin may be an even bigger khuylo than Trump although Trump is OUR khuylo!

Not quite. Yes, "Poo-Tin" is definitely a "khuylo." I regard Trump as merely a "mudak." (Мудак) That's "a**hole." Why the difference? AFAIK, Trump has done & said some awful things, but has never ordered anyone killed ... has he?

Most (or all?) PCVs were evacuated when COVID hit and I'm not sure if any have started again. There likely aren't any PCVs in Ukraine to bring home, which is a silver lining.

Thank you! What you say makes complete sense. I have been out of the loop for some time now. I hated leaving Peace Corps. I was and still am a huge fan of the Five-Year Rule. So, as my fifth year approached, back toDoD I went.

Khuylo Putin's evil plan seems to playing out. He appears to recognizing the Eastern Ukraine areas that he invaded in 2014 as separate territory from Ukraine. Next step is to likely move Russian tanks and many tens of thousands of Russian troops into Eastern Ukraine. Probably then attack Ukrainian military and when they respond he escalates further.

I hope Biden is considering significant lethal weapon supplies to ship to Ukraine.

P.S. Tucker Carlson is taking Russia's side. Many on the right seem to like Putin almost as much as Trump does!

Maybe UK can assist. I figure if Boris J. sends in about 1,500 experienced Soccer Hooligans, that'd help the Ukrainians immensely! :)

Russia is behaving the way Russia has always behaved. I do not defend them, far from it, but grand strategy is almost involuntary for any nation and in Russia's case, the grand strategy she needs to pursue to protect her national existence is to create and control buffer states to the West. The U.S. long ago reached its goal of making the North American continent safe for our national existance. That's what the Monroe Doctrine is all about and that's why Kennedy flipped out over Cuba. I do assure you that if Ottawa started cozying up to China Washington would react as forcefully as necessary.
