Shilling for? Maybe I missed some of his posts, but one I read was very negative toward Trident.

. . . or Steve Foerster shilling for University of the Cumberlands.

. . . or some graduates of the Big 3 shilling for the school from which they individually graduated.

The fact is that Steve doesn't write very much about Cumberlands

I haven't seen any posts about the Big 3 that I could describe as shilling. I know the most about TESU and their processes so I can speak to how that whole thing works. My interactions with Excelsior were minimal and I had no experience with Charter Oak. We talk about them but I've never seen anyone offering a horribly biased view where they vigorously defend them no matter what.

And aside from commenting that he was pleased with his program I don't think I've ever seen Steve write anything about Cumberlands. In fact, I feel like he's been clear that it isn't for everyone.

I'm not even trying to start an argument here, I just am genuinely confused about these two examples.

Here's my thinking on the subject. On the one hand, shilling is a TOS violation. On the other hand, we appreciate first person descriptions of programs, courses, schools, etc. It helps people to make decisions if they can get first-person reviews. How do you make the distinction. For me the difference is that shilling is an exclusive activity. If I came to DI and all I posted about was Wentworth then I'd be shilling. But if I post on lots of other subjects and sometimes post about Wentworth, then that's not shilling. The line gets drawn somewhere in the grey area. Now I think everyone knows that I'm just joking with Chris about shilling for Liberty. While he takes every opportunity to promote his school, he posts on lots of other topics too. RodMC is a shill AFAIC and I've told him so. He (minimally) modified his behavior as a result. Generally we don't get a lot of hardcore shilling so it stands out when it happens. Don't be a one-trick-pony.

I'd also add that no school is perfect. If everything about your school is puppies and rainbows in all situations, just...chill a bit.

I have nothing but good things to say about the psychology and business faculty at Scranton. That said, their parking was a nightmare and the campus cops were real jerks. I also think the people in the financial aid office were rude and twice has the registrar sent transcripts to ME (only) when I requested them be sent to another school. Then had them insist that they sent them as I requested despite me showing them a photocopy of my request and then having them tell me they would resend them for free only to rescind that offer and require me to pay for the transcripts again.

It's a fine school. But the admin can be a bit trying. Also, it's just way too expensive for what it is.

    There is no perfect school.

I'd bet that's an apt capsule description of most established universities. Certainly true where I went.

When did you attend the U (Scranton that is)? I hope it's not within the last 10 years. They have the best police chief, who, of course, was my chief. I worked jointly with the police department and parking. We didn't have many issues when I was there.

This would have been circa 2000ish. To frame this, I was there before they even considered breaking ground on the DeNaples Center.

Now, that having been said, I also had some great experiences with campus PD/parking. On one occasion I got a ticket. Totally justified. I was frustrated and I was in a very big rush due to a final so I parked somewhere I wasn't supposed to. I went in to the office full of contrition and they waived it for me.

Back then, security guards with campus PD made $8.50/hr. If you had your Act 120 (Police Officer Certification) they bumped you up to $9.25. So we had some really power tripping folks in uniform at the time. Nothing too egregious just generally being jerks when it wasn't necessary. Even 20 years ago (Jesus...) $9.25 wasn't a wage that was going to attract top talent especially when you had to be a certified cop and were expected to do real cop things all day.

But my point still stands, even if they have the best police chief there is no organization that can say that they are perfect or always pleasant to deal with in every interaction. Nor does the present state of affairs make anything of the past go away (and vice versa). If it makes you feel better, I can complain about the vending machine (that took our Royal Card/Student ID) that regularly jammed and deprived me of my Mountain Dew?

But seriously, I like Scranton. It's a good school. My biggest gripe with them is the price. I never would have earned my MBA there if I were self-funding. For that money I could have probably earned a better name. Penn State would have far greater recognition than Scranton, especially outside of the region (I live in Syracuse and it's fairly uncommon to find someone who has even heard of UofS). I went back because I didn't like the idea of being a Scranton "dropout." Not every student is in a position to drop $60k+ so they can work off some emotional baggage or at a place in their career where they can sacrifice school name recognition because nobody cares where they went to school any more.

I totally agree, Big 3 graduates are THE WORST!

(in case anyone wonders, Levicoff graduated from TESC)

On February 20, 2022, Touro College announced that the NYS Board of Regents had granted a request to rename the college to Touro University. Why is this important?

Anyone who graduated from Touro University International (a former Branch Campus of Touro College, NY), and was issued a diploma from Touro University International, is entitled under applicable laws and regulations to have their academic records maintained and issued by Touro College, New York.

Now folks can update thier resume simply as Touro University, if your potential employer needs your resumes (say educational systems) it will say on the transcript: Touro University
