Perhaps, but did this actually happen? Which campus of UoP was this? Who was the enrollment counselor? When did it occur? Certainly, if someone knows this situation, those facts are also available. And please don't suggest that privacy is a concern. We're talking about a potential crime, after all. We'd all like to see justice, right? So who, where, and when?

There's no such thing as "mentally handicapped." What are you saying? This person had a low IQ? Other cognitive problems? Learning disabilities? I know a few waifs that didn't graduate HS and they're quite smart. Sometimes people don't graduate from HS because they have messed up lives, not because they don't have cognitive horsepower. At the same time, if this person earns a degree they will be able to work off those loans, just like I did. This anecdotal scrap doesn't cut it. "I know a guy who knows a guy who has a cousin that works for a guy who's in charge of big things. And he says..."
    It means nothing.

Someone could've easily had someone else to do the work for them for many of the on-campus courses I took during my undergrad, so that's not something unique to online programs.

I don't know why people are dismissing zanger's post out of hand; it seems at least possible that UofP could have a rogue teacher or two who isn't doing a good job. That doesn't mean that UofP is a "joke" of course; just that in an institution that big, there will inevitably be some that slip through the cracks just link any other educational institution.

I'd suggest to zanger that you might want to take at least two courses before dismissing UofP as a "joke". A sample size of 1 is pretty small ...

The person I was speaking of was officially classified as "Intellectual Disability" by the school district he went to. The best word I know to describe the act of enrolling him would be unethical.

I've had some member feedback (and I agree) that this thread is just a bit too troll-like and generally counterproductive. I think that all perspectives have been aired and it seems clear that there will be no reconcilliation. Consequently, I'm locking this thread and it will sink under the waves.
