I will begin preparations on this immediately. I have not had much response at all other than "we'll have our decision in 48-72 hours". I already know what that means. It means we are waiting for yet another computer printout. So I will begin preparing my letters in case I must go forward with this. What a shame it would come to this and how ridiculous that they would put a student through this just to make an extra buck off me.

On a sidenote, I am a military spouse and in 2 years I have yet to ever receive the miltary discount. It's gotten to be a running joke around my house. They tell me to fax my military ID, we fax it and nothing happens. I call and they say the never received it. Then they tell me I need to fax it. I fax/mail whatever...nothing happens. I call, they tell me I need to fax it. BLAH BLAH BLAH....That is just another issue I have with them that has been ongoing. When all of this other business came up and I saw that they were going to give me the shaft I told my counselor that this was just another issue where it seemed like I was getting the brush off. I told her (like i had already 1000 times) that I was still not getting my military discount. Of course at this point the back money they owe me is well over 1000 dollars for what I have overpaid. And of course this is what she wrote me....

    Hi Holly,

I am sorry for your frustration, but I do not keep the records for your military discount. I want to make sure however that you are transferred if you can provide you husband's military ID. I spoke with your Finance Advisor, and she requested that you fax a copy of your ID card. However, until we receive this documentation, we are not able to provide you with these services. Again, please contact your Finance Advisor if you have any questions about your discount.

I'll file that one away with the other 500 emails where I've been told the same thing repeatedly.

If you want to work at UOP just learn this mantra

"I have no recollection of that"
    "We never received that information"
"I have no recollection of that"
    "We never received that information"

    Repeat....

The database does include "University of Texas System" and separately "University of Texas at Dallas".

    Holly,

Do you have anything in writing that says these rules did not apply to that class? A syllabus, an e-mail from the instructor or the AA would be priceless for if/when someone starts paying attention to your communications.

Don't get me wrong... I am just describing how UoP works with regards of attendance & participation. I really hope the situation is resolved in your favour soon. In fact, I am very disappointed that you haven't got a straight answer from the "higher ups" yet.

    Oxpecker,

Just curious... what criteria are you using? Even if I just search for "Masters in Business & Management," I don't get any of the UT schools. I get the following:

What you see are the sponsored database entries. There should be a link at the bottom for unsponsored entries.

Finally looks like I have found my way to the right people who are in charging of handling these situations. I am beginning to guess that it is a bit of maze for both students and faculty as to who these "people" are that deal with these disputes. Turns out they do have an office for this sort of thing. I got a phonecall this morning from a very nice lady who actually asked me my side of the story. At least i got a chance to tell my side of the story to someone. She told me to send her all correspondence proving that my professor had every intentions of giving me a grade. Now I just need him to also get in touch with these same people etc. to verify etc. etc. Looks as if it will all boil down to a judgement call by someone in authority. We'll see what happens. I imagine I will hear in the next 48 hours.

The list is observably incomplete because one of the pioneers of DL in this country, and in fact a major innovator cum contributor in the DE field, is noticeably missing from the said database. In the Southeastern part of the country and perhaps all corners of the country, DL is often coterminous with the school in question. Although the school that I have in mind endured ignoble stigma in its budding years, it has grown to become one of the largest university for campus-based learning in the U.S. I wonder why it is missing from Degreeinfo.com database. I am not talking about University of Phoenix, and by the way, I can’t fathom why University of Phoenix was excluded when a less-than-wonderful school like Lansbridge University made the list.

Don't do that, ask a librarian to find it.

I know at least one librarian who can do that. He has complained to the CEO of Time Warner (Gerry Levin at the time)about my cable TV, Bernie Ebbers of MCI (left a message with his wife Joy, a lovely woman) and other various and sundry corporate functionaries.

I always give the official channels a few days to work, but after that I figure they get what they deserve. It was fantastic to conference the technical support supervisor in with the CEO of Time Warner. I live for moments like that. No bedbug letters for me!

So if you want to know that info please drop me an email. I don't want to post it here. They deserve some privacy.

People should really learn never to PO a librarian, or a librarian's friends.

    YEAH!!!

Good news....after taking a lot of the advice offered here and contacting various people whose names floated around in addition to various people I had never heard of before but whose email addresses I found in my search....looks like they have reversed the decision. I got a phonecall 30 minutes ago from someone who said in a week I should see my grade appear on the screen. So until I actually see that grade on my screen I won't breathe that sigh of relief but I do feel a lot better. From what I was told on the phone they have reversed their decision. I don't have that however in writing from anyone though so I am still awaiting the final result.

Now I will say that once I actually managed to find the person in charge of handling disputes things started to roll in the right direction. The problem however was finding the right person to talk to. She tells me that my academic counselor followed policy and that she just did what she is trained to do. She also told me that they have a rule where academic counselors are not allowed to talk to professors so that would explain why she refused to talk to my teacher. From what she said it sounded as if they are very strict with the counselors in what they can and can't do I guess. I will say this much. The counselor did not respond to any of my requests for instructions on the grievance process. To me dealing with my academic counselor through this has felt very similar to trying to buy a car. The car salesman keeps telling you that they can't lower the price no matter what. Then when you finally decide to walk off the lot out of no where some manager comes down from an upstairs room and offers you a much better price. The car salesman's job is to make sure you never find out about that manager upstairs who can authorize to give you 10 grand off the price. That is how I feel about my academic counselor right now. A glorified car salesman.

This has been a frightening experience to me. Very frightening. That I would go through the major class where I write my final thesis 80 pages all that research and to have them come so close to telling me that I have to do it all over again and be so nonchalant about it....that is scary stuff. On the other hand if it all works out as it should then at least someone over there at UOP has their head screwed on straight.

Wow! This whole episode is a very sad commentary on U of P and other "corporate" schools. It is clearly all about the money to them. When you said, "She also told me that they have a rule where academic counselors are not allowed to talk to professors so that would explain why she refused to talk to my teacher", I found that horrifying. It is traditionally the Professors or Dept. Chairs that ARE the academic counselors! The whole system seems set up to victumize both the students and the instructors. In the 70's we had corporations that realized being a good citizen was part of long term success. Now it seems like they are becoming the robber barons of the 21st century.

Another one. New England College of Finance. They offer an online associate degree in Business Administration w/ concentrations in Branch Management, Mutual Funds and Investments, Insurance, or Accounting and Finance.

They also offer several certs online and appear to be actively pursuing partnerships with other institutions. For the financially inclined, it might be a good choice.

    They are regionally accredited.

    Sorry Armywife,
I didn't mean to highjack your thread.

I have a few more off the top of my head that aren't in the database. Maybe someone should start a thread about this topic for updating purposes?
