My guess is that he went for the second one based on the need for a better reputation. If you read his bio on NSC's website, he made no mention of where he got his Ph.D. but did so for his bachelor's and master's degrees. Maybe he wasn't proud of Capella's reputation and had issues getting certain faculty positions.

Yeah. That occurred to me as well (although I did not notice the inconsistent structure). But I was not sure if suggesting the possibility might be mean or disparaging of his credentials.

In the case of James Williams, it seems that the second doctorate is from a more solid school so this indicates that he might have done it just to secure a tenure track position.

If you are a professor, you are required to do research so it is not very difficult for a professor to take 2 or 3 research papers and make it a dissertation and then collect doctorates. It is an expensive hobby but better than some people that use money to collect art, cars, etc.

If you were waiting for someone to request a link to it to avoid the appearance of self-promotion, consider that condition met. ;)

No link; I don't want to advertise on this board.

It's on Amazon. the title is Purposeful Leadership Development.

Next: a book on career development for talent developers. (This winter.) Then, a book on an element of nontraditional higher education history. (In Spring 2021.)

Thank you! Again, I won't link it here, but my practice is Rich Douglas Consulting, LLC. I'm sure a web search will turn up a link.

In my opinion, getting two doctorates quite strange. But multiple master's degrees are more acceptable.

Iff you mean strange in the sense of unusual, rather than in the sense of objectionable, then I agree.

    Couldn't agree more. Very strange.

Second master's? Sounds great! When do we start?

"Double doctor affair... because one doctorates isn't enough." One even seem to have three doctorates.

Student: Master, what is the perfect question?
    Guru: That is.
Student: Then master, what is the perfect answer?
    Guru: This is.
