Neither AMA nor APA have scientific reasons for their positions. It comes down to the people in question reeeeeeeeeeally believing reeeeeeeeeally hard that they were born the wrong sex. There is absolutely no comparable "identity" that one can believe oneself to be that is accepted as anything other than a delusion (there exist people, for example, who believe that they are supposed to be cats, dragons, eagles or that their chronological age is incorrect). What I still don't understand- and yes, I've done my own research- is exactly what makes a mistaken understanding of one's own sex any different than anything else? That is- what, other than pandering, tokenism, and/or the oppression-as-capital money and power grab that all go hand-in-hand?

Quick note: I've purposefully used the word sex instead of gender because I still find no evidence that gender is anything but a completely invented construct, specifically created for the purpose of winning arguments about these very same issues.

I can't find any direct or meaningful answers to these questions and am usually met with extreme amounts of anger when I accidentally open my mouth and ask the wrong people.

What's with the "thousands" of trans military people tope? Why do they overinflate the numbers so much? On one hand there's thousands of trans people on the other hand there's only about 25-50 or so who have received treatment in the military for gender disorders. There can't be too many in the military because then the favorite tactic of bringing up how much the DoD spends on Viagra falls apart.

For the record, I think they should be allowed to serve openly. I guarantee you that most of the trans would 1. Not want to serve and 2. Not be eligible to serve, based on the stringent requirements the DoD had ready should they have been allowed to enlist on the July 1 deadline.

Probably fewer than that, if we are talking about anatomical hermaphrodites or people with XXY sex chromosomes (actual biological inter-sexes). These unfortunate individuals are probably less common in the military than in the general population. There's a small population of people who have undergone so-called "sex changes", but again I'd guess that they are less common in the military. Maybe an unknown number more if we include would-be transvestites who want to feel free to cross-dress or something like that.

The population that might be called 'transgender' is probably pretty diverse and includes people who need to be handled different ways. It's not going to be a large number of people. That's one reason why it's useful to better define what it is that we are talking about.

And it probably needs to be remembered that the military isn't a social-service agency, it's a fighting force.

I don't recall hearing much about 'transgender' as a political issue until Bruce Jenner had his sex-change. Then suddenly it because this huge new cause among the SJW's. Maybe gay-rights had become passe or something. The whole thing seems like a manufactured issue to me, used as a social-change tool to twist whatever it's applied to in a leftwards direction (the military in this case).

Once again, actually read the words.

Is anyone directly quoted as saying they weren't consulted about the decison?

    No.

They said they found out about the announcement through the news and social media. In other words, Trump didn't tell them when or how he was making the announcement.

More sleazy, biased propaganda being peddled as "journalism".

APA could be American Paranormal Association or American Pedophilic Alumni or other. Which APA is yours?

Playing with numbers is what "they're" doing. I don't buy any of these numbers, but I'll readily admin it's just a hunch from over 20 years of experience within the DoD. I just don't believe that you can take the overall US population of TG, and then apply it to the Military. That's just like saying, there are 13% African Americans in America therefore every city has 13% African American population. Well we know that groups have preferences. Being TG is a difficult thing to have. I'm thinking that people who are TG would not go into the military relative to their overall numbers in the US.

I think those numbers are a fabrication. I'd like to see something much more conclusive.
