  1. re: "Bear's latest catalog"

Clarification: John Bear (with daughter Mariah and other co-authors) has published several guides to distance and non-traditional education.

    Are you referring to

Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning - 14th edition
Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning

    or another title?

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for the plug. You're right, though. We do list over 350 programs. Amazon's site is wrong (or at the very least, it suffers from not updating the information when the book actually arrived).

    Mary asks ...
Meanwhile is there a way to prove my legitimacy so we can get off this kick of me being a plant and get on with the subject at hand. Thank you, Mary

    Chip replies ...
I think that this issue will resolve itself in good time.

    ## Well done - you have simply silenced Mary by disconnecting her.

    Why?

If someone disagrees with the gangs opinion, we experience the same contempt and disregard that existed on a.e.d.

    Tom,

Received the volume today via UPS, and have already perused it. Excellent material in the field of education, so commendations are in order.

Hey Timmy...lay off the adult beverages next time you want to post here, it makes for better reading. [IMG]

Seriously, check out http://www.finaid.org for scholarships and grants. There are thousands available, and even I as an older (35) prospective doctoral student with a decent salary was able to qualify for some programs.

Ah, Timmy, you have finally understood the reality of things on this forum. You see, there is a select group here that is always right, never wrong and always ready to give informative advice to all who inquire. And in the words of Rush Limbaugh (sorry liberals), "If its worth hearing, you will hear it on this forum. It you don't hear it here, its not worth hearing." [IMG]

Absolutely not. Mary's posting privileges have not been suspended. As to why she's chosen not to follow up, I have no idea.

My comment was intended at face value. The more someone posts and the more they explain their position, the better others can come to understand her.

Please understand, it is *not* administrative policy to suspend users for posting opposing viewpoints, or even for chewing out moderators... or else quite a few regular posters would have been suspended at this point!

At the same time, we do carefully monitor registrations, because there have been periods where there have been many duplicate identities and bogus postings, and that undermines the credibility of the overall content of the board, which none of us, regardless of our view on MIGS, state-approved schools, or anything else, wants.

Moderating this board isn't the easiest thing in the world... as Tom N. has said, when we are light-handed, people complain that we're letting offensive posts stay on when the should be deleted. When we moderate, or ask people to stop attacking others, other people complain that we're censoring.

But the good news is, the more decisions we have to make, the more consistent we're getting... which is pretty amazing, considering that most of the moderators have never met in person [IMG]

Like a baseball umpire, getting it from both sides. It's basically a thankless job but, I'd like to thank you anyway.

And if it weren't for the moderators, this forum could quickly devolve into another alt.education.distance. A special thank-you to Chip and the other moderators!

To those who think that Rich Douglas has unfairly targetted MIGS, please take a look at revised ODA comment on MIGS. http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/unaccredited.html

It seems that ODA officials have confirmed that CEU is not authorized to award doctorate degrees in Mexico.

    Thanks for the update.

Looks like MIGS is slipping fast into the degree mill pit of no return. From the owners point of view, I doubt that they are all that upset since they apparently had little money invested. Like most degree mills the people that pay the highest cost are the poor students.

Not so fast Ike, and don’t you start singing yet Bill Huffman. Ike I can tell you that I am partially responsible for the so call update on the “over-rated” Oregon list. I have exchanged mails with this Contreras Guy since last week. And I can tell you that He is not together considering the power conferred on the office that he holds. Do me a favor email him and ask his source regarding CEU /MIGS. And please share your finding with me as well, (via my private account of cause). Below is my contribution on a similar topic on the general discussion section of this forum under “OREGAN LIST EXPANDS AGAIN” or something like that.
    Peace,

    Timmy
    Kudos Earon,

You are right on the money on this one. You see I was about posting similar “alert” on the forum. I tell you This Allan Contreras Guy is very interesting. For a Guy who makes decisions that affects lives and carriers, He needs more schooling. I was about asking the Forum Snoopers to see if they can find the” certainly less than wonderful” school that produced him to the academic world.
If you can promise not go public with it, I ‘ll share my private mail (with him) with you.
In a nutshell the so much celebrated Oregon list isn’t all that as far as I am concerned.

Timmy Ade supporting Earon in saying that the Oregon list is over-rated in its importance.
