Bill, This is were it went terrible wrong: "They showed up with their guns, bombs and zip-ties to restrain the hands of their intended kidnap victims." Portion of people who came to DC a radical minority from what I'm reading and not all of them are conservatives, they are Trump supporters but not necessary conservatives, and some Antifa and God know who else. I can't confirm but sources in the US intelligence community stated that 5 guests - Russians Operatives among those who stormed the capitol. Majority of the people who came to protest were peaceful. I can see how easily the calling to come to DC to "stop the steal" could have been misinterpreted. But this was not a call to violence. The road to Jan 6th ransacking of the Capitol by a mob began four years ago with the Russian theft of Democratic party emails. 2016 attack by Russians was a declaration of cyber-war that it was. Continues till 2020 hacking our federal agencies. Russia aims to undermine U.S. democracy for very long time. Disinformation campaigns work in the short term to target enemies and in the long term to undermine the stability of social systems. The short-term Russian goal was to fail Hillary in her Presidential bid in turn help Trump, whom the Kremlin viewed as a force for chaos and disruption in Washington. The long-term goal was to create lasting mistrust among Americans in their own elections. Restoring trust takes longer than demolishing it. And I understand that finding new ways to for the news networks to be more objective and less partizan, so the alternate information systems that instigate events like the Capitol siege be less inflectional.
