Student Loan Debt Forgiveness 10-20k

Matthew 20:1-16 sure is a fun read!

 

To a certain segment of our political class, only certain parts of the Bible are authentic… certainly not the ridiculous parts about debt limits and forgiveness, paying just wages, taking care of the poor, or… shivers… notions that the rich are not inherently righteous! Where is your prosperity gospel?!

 

No - but back in the day, he'd have been burned at the stake, regardless. Today -- defrocked? Excommunicated? Reviled? Admonished? I dunno. Don't know precisely what defines a heretic these days - or what happens to them. About as hard to predict as a degree evaluation. And less useful.

 

If they think of it only as bad for themselves -- yes, they are greedy, unmerciful etc. Otherwise - YMMV.
And how do you read someone's mind?

The bar is so low for politicians now that one becoming President isn't even far-fetched anymore. In fact, it would probably be cheered on as "empowerment" by a large section of American society...

 

LOL! I'm not sure what's funnier: Trump in that scene, or the demeanor the presenter visibly struggled (but succeeded) to maintain

 

I am really happy gor everyone who this actually positively affected. Unfortunately for me, because my parents did not want to fill out the FAFSA, so the debt forgiveness is only partially helpful. The irony is that I grew up wearing hand-me downs from older mostly brothers, worked for non-profits for many years, spent many more years strictly volunteering for non-profits, and even formed a nonprofit for the most vulnerable that required getting laws changed... but so far I will see none of the benefits of being currently "employed" with a nonprofit that leads to debt being forgiven. End of storey, I will still owe money. C'est la vie.

 

Puts me in mind of this lady: Alessandra Mussolini - and yes - she's Benito's granddaughter. And no - she wasn't exactly an exotic dancer, but she was a glamour model, was photographed for Playboy (including TWO covers) and said "Every actress does topless and stuff like this; you have to."

I don't like everything she said - but she definitely came out with some "good ones" in her remarkable and varied political career, from which she retired some years ago. Yes. it's time. Definitely. I can't vote in the US -- but I'd cheer!

 

Maybe by that time people wouldn't even need ballots, they could just show up with a pocket full of marked singles to throw at the candidate's box.

One thing for sure about having an exotic dancer in politics - she'd not be fazed at all by intense public scrutiny.
... But having to put all her assets in a Blind Trust? ...I'm not certain.

 

Yeah, sure Rich. If this royal edict actually comes to pass, I'll benefit. So much for your contention. Perhaps it never occurred to you that some people merely want the federal government to stick to its lane (i.e., the constitution) and stop involving itself in every aspect of their lives (especially their economic lives). A legitimate and effective policy to alleviate student debt would be to end the subsidies that perpetuate schools from shilling expensive programs that have no marketable value. Just because someone took $75k in loans for an undergraduate degree in woke dance theory at their favorite private school and now struggles to pay what he or she borrowed doesn't mean the president ought to force the taxpayer to come to the rescue.

 

Sure, sure. Now tell us how your PPP loan being forgiven was totally justified.

 

To some people, the government is for the businesses, not the people. So, only business should get bail out. The nerve.
