  1. Just a point of curiosity for me, but does anyone know why I can't see anyone's signature lines when I'm logged into the forum? When I'm logged out I can see my own signature and those of everyone else. Is there any way for me to change that? I find that I enjoy relating the signatures to the nature of the poster's comments.

  2. Yes, it is a checkbox option in your settings. Click on the USER CP link from the menu. On the next page, under Settings & Options, click Edit Options. In the box, Thread Display Options, the first subsection is Visible Post Elements, which has a checkbox for viewing signatures. Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.

    Then SAVE CHANGES.

I have recently joined this forum. Its my 6th post but still I can't see the signature visible. Whats the reason behind the scene?

The reason that you can't see your signature is that it has been erased. It has been erased because it was an advertising link. Such advertising is a violation of our terms of service. The vast majority of people who violate this policy are new members. Typically it is clear from the context of their post that they registered solely to spam us and they are immediately and permanently banned. In you case it was not so clear. Don't disappoint.

On this same area why are my threads slowed

Why is it that I am getting my post held until approved by a moderater. I know I am fairly new to this board, but my first couple of post were not held. It does seem that when I write a short sentence or two it makes it through, but longer post get held up.

Did I do something wrong I don't know about? Or is this the way all new members are treated? I thought I might be able to help some of the others that are just starting out here.

I just get the feeling this board is being taken over by those that are interested in Masters and Phd's and the little guy who is just starting out and is lost and overwhelmed feels left out and more overwhelmed. I know when I first started out if it were not for Jennifer and some of the other friendly people on other boards that I may have just given up. I think this board should be encouraging and informing students at all levels of on-line learning and we should try not to make anyone feel insignificant or stupid because they just want to learn how to earn an Associate Degree.

Just my 2c and it will get slowed down, but I try to help the little guy.

I apologize for that and assure you you haven't done anything wrong. Thanks to the greedy, shady Indian SEO spammers, we have to use a variety of techniques to try and catch their posts, to keep DegreeInfo from getting overrun with junk posts. One of the techniques is an automated process that looks at each post and if it finds something that indicates the post might be "spammy", routes it to the moderation queue. I tweak the filters every few days but it's an imperfect science. Once you've reached a certain number of posts without a problem, you'll no longer be subject to the automated filtration.

It's frustrating for the mods because, literally, without diligence, there would be hundreds of useless spammy posts every week.

And I (speaking as the founder of degreeinfo) concur with your viewpoint 100%. No one should *ever* be made to feel they are less significant because they are pursuing an associates or other undergrad degree, and in fact, one of the upcoming things we will be doing is adding more resources for people seeking to complete an undergraduate degree.

If you ever get the sense that anyone is treating you with disrespect on Degreeinfo, please either report the post (there's a little icon in the corner of each post to do that) or send a PM to one of the mods and we'll address the issue.

    Thanks for posting!

    - Chip

I had the same question when I first joined. It's probably because you included a link in your post. I think for new members, all their posts that have links in them are automatically held. It's annoying, but helps prevent spam. [Edit: Well there ya go, Chip posted his reply as I was typing mine :)]

I checked, and Repplanet is an SEO spammer. He's banned, at least until he reregisters.

Thank you for the rapid reply

I do understand the spammer thing sometimes I get so sick of them I don't want to look at anything with a link.

As for the other no one here has made any comments or derogatory remarks. I just feel like I don't belong on this board because I will probably never go past my BA. It may seem insignificant compared to all those MBA's and more in some peoples signature. For me gaing my AA after 35 years and hopefully my BA after only 2 more is a big thing.

I just don't want to scare new learners away, they need this site.

Hi Linda - One of the patterns I've noticed is that many people seeking Bachelors degrees already have a pile of undergrad credits and they're looking for the fastest way to complete their degree. Often times people (myself included) will refer them to "the big three" or BAin4weeks.com

However, we know that there are a huge number of high quality BA/BS programs out there and I think it would be great to see them get some more attention from this board.

Any board or person that tells a contributing member that they don't
belong on a forum needs to shove a big ipad where the heavens don't illuminate! Undergraduate and graduate students from RA,NA, and even unaccredited schools are forum members. So welcome, contribute and make the digital heavens shine! Good day :D

Anyone wishing to get a degree belongs on this board. Please don't be intimidated by people with MBAs, I try to be benevolent and share my knowledge with all and everyone.

I'm sorry I sounded so whiney

I am feeling a little frustrated with on-line learning today. I am most angry with myself.

I first looked into CLEP test over 10 years ago, but I let myself get overwhelmed and did not come back until Oct '06.

Now I get frustrated that I can't earn a BA and teaching certificate in NJ. Or at least not without starting over at WGU and I am too old and poor for that.

I love testing out and online learning I would do more if I didn't need a job and income.

The more I read on this forum the more I see good people trying to help others.

    I almost have the BA

The teaching certificate is the problem. I work as a substitute teacher and I was under the impression I would be able to have this school mentor me for an alternate route teaching certificate. Today I had the time and opertunity to talk to the Superintendant, he was very nice and completely honest. They can not afford to mentor me it would cost them money they don't have and he was not supportive that I would find any other district nearby that would take me either. I am just losing hope that I will ever become a teacher in NJ.

  16. Your fears represent the exact opposite experience than that of my own short time here at DI. Most people who post here know what education is and what it isn't and aren't likely to think less of your posts simply because you don't have as high of a degree.

Really, a big part of this board is helping people who's exprience and merits are deserving of a degree but have not been able to obtain one for various reasons. When I post, no one ever comments that I'm "only" on my way to an associate's degree.

I gather that most of them recognize that I already have knowledge, insight, the ability to reason, etc. which will not be noticably different the day after I graduate as opposed to the day before.

Now that I think about it, its been months since I took my last exam. I better put a hold on posting here and ket crackin at the books.

3 more months and that illusive AA will be MINE!!!

    Linda,

I may be picking at a scab here, but what is more important to you, being a teacher, or being in New Jersey? If you are willing to move, you will find there are many states that are extremely welcoming to so-called "lateral entry" teachers, who have a degree in a subject area, but do not have the education education (ha!) needed for a teaching certificate. Lateral entry teachers are hired with the understanding that they will complete the courses necessary for their teaching certificate within a few years, which most folks do by earning a master's degree in education. I know that many school districts in North Carolina are still dealing with teacher shortages despite the down economy, and so are still looking to hire via lateral entry. I am sure that is the case in other states as well.

I know it can be terribly frustrating to see the end of the road up ahead and watch the nattering nabobs of negativity put up a "ROAD CLOSED" sign. The great thing about closed roads is that there is always a detour - you can still get where you're going, you just have to go somewhere else first. Best of luck to you!

I have an Associates degree (on my way to a Bachelors) and it may be the most valuable degree I ever earned. I say that because it helped to pull me out from the ranks of welders at the ironworks and gave me the chance to rise above the sparks and smoke. I was proud of my Associates degree then and I still am today.
