The Department of Education just fined Grand Canyon University a record $37.7 million for deceiving prospective students about the cost (and the length) of their doctoral programs. This is a record fine. As the story below notes, GCU disburses more federal financial aid than any other university. Largest Christian university in US faces record fine after federal probe into alleged deception I'm not so sure about this. It's hard to predict how long one's doctoral program will take. And schools should charge a small fee for continuing students. But I guess GCU underrepresented the time involved (only 2% of their doctoral students finish in the projected timeframe) and, therefore, the cost.
