"A Peking University professor has been accused of academic fraud after a background check revealed that her doctoral degree was obtained from a fake university in Europe.

The professor, 58-year-old Chen Chunhua, is being questioned after it was discovered that her doctoral degree was issued by an unlicensed university 21 years ago. Chen stated in her professional biography that she received her doctorate of business administration from the European University of Ireland in 2001, reported South China Morning Post.

The school, however, has no official website and is not listed in the 25 official Irish universities acknowledged by the Chinese education ministry. A report in “The Irish Times” in 2011 lists the self-claimed university as operating without an official approval at a Dublin address with no office.

Chen’s professional biography also states that she finished her postdoctoral research at Nanjing University in 2005."

I can't really answer why people do stupid things like this. Although I do know that in general Asian culture considers teachers in high regard.

Umm.. she's not a fake professor. She may have a fake doctorate but that doesn't change the fact that she may have been a very competent faculty.

The person drives 84 hours per week. There's not a job on this planet that could pay me enough to work 84 hours per week. This is an irrelevant comparison because MOST professors are not putting in 84 hours per week. Heck, once they hit tenure your lucky to catch them on campus 30 hours per week. Lol

A prominent professor at one of the highest ranked universities in the world is likely to have high social status, and reasonable pay relative to local cost of living.

China’s rural provinces and areas have low pay and cost of living. One could even argue that they’re almost operating on a serf or peasant system there and slavery, is effectively still in existence.

China’s major provinces and metropolises are a world apart from those regions. Cost of middle class or affluent residences are not necessarily cheaper…. and the wages have escalated greatly. China is no longer considered a low wage country for manufacturing. We’re even seeing semi-skilled and skilled wages begin to rival American equivalents in a few sectors.
