It sounds like he's talking about the Patriot Act.

Ohio has a pretty liberal (ahem) open-carry law. People armed to the teeth will be able to get pretty close to the action next week, with only an inner circle (with security provided by the Secret Service) gun-free.

    Should be fun!

I was a police officer long before I went back to school, and indeed, sometimes time constraints meant that I didn't have time to change before or after class. However, I was always discreet about it; I took off my uniform shirt & gunbelt, and carried my weapon in a concealment holster that I covered with a civilian shirt or jacket, so it wasn't obvious. The only giveaway was the thin blue stripe running down the legs of my pants. I did this even when the class had several officers in it, and/or in CJ courses where no one would feel awkward with a uniformed police officer in class. I did it just so I wouldn't be a distraction or bring the spotlight on myself, I like to run under the radar.

I think it's beyond silly that someone would feel threatened in the United States by a uniformed police officer, especially considering that the people involved called the police because they felt threatened by the police, but I also think it's a bit whackerish to wear a full uniform to a class as a student. Just my opinion.

I don't freak out when I see ordinary people carry openly, so neither would I do so over a police officer doing the same.
