People with education degrees looked upon with scorn? Not just DL but B&M too.

Really, did your professor have any students who went to jail because MBA programs were too busy teaching stats to ever teach business ethics? You can make fun all you want, but MBA programs have had their share of bad press for cranking out unethical managers.

No, no, no! Don't you realize that this thread is all about bashing education programs???? Logic will not be tolerated here!!! The only explanation is that education programs are weak and education students are dumb.

The thread was not started with the intent of bashing education programs. Especially since I'm an educator and currently enrolled in an education program. I'm not a fan of self-flagellation.

I wasn't aiming the comment at you. I was referring to the people who keep posting with ridiculous examples of how their brothers and friends and prior instructors said how bad education programs are, and how low SAT scores among education majors means that education majors are dumb. This does nothing for anybody, and it makes me want to think of every anecdote I have that highlights stereotypes and problems within other higher education programs, and just blast them all over the discussion forum only to bash other degree areas. Because that is clearly what is going on with many of these posts.

If we are looking at ethics and immoral conduct, shall we compare the behavior of Business Majors with the behavior of Education Majors? I think there are probably as many cases of immoral conduct within education as there is in business. In my state, there have been more cases (reported) of improper conduct by school officials than by business officials. Just sayin'.

Seriously? This anecdotal observation without any support is doing nothing for the conversation. How could you possibly compare "behavior" among different majors? How do you know that there has been more cases (reported) of improper conduct by school officials than by business officials? Do they report it directly to you? Just sayin'.

Apparently I have to spell this out. My point was not that anyone is more ethical than anyone else. My point was that it is not cool to bash an entire group of people, especially with flawed logic and ridiculous anecdotes as if they are real evidence. I was using the ethics example to show that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I suppose it is my fault for being mad about some 70s elitist professor making comments, and anonymous Internet posters perpetuating the ridiculousness.

My bad surfdoctor. I see your point. I re-read my post and saw that I made it seem like you started this to bash ed. I never meant that. I just worded it poorly. My apologies.

    Wow. You are upset.

SAT's can be a good measure of general intelligence and can also be a predictor of cognitive functioning. The data show that Ed Majors score on the lower end of that scale.

A lot of people say (and probably some studies show) that Marines are dumb/un-educated/whatever negative connotation they want...I'm not going to throw a tantrum on a internet discussion board.

Look, I read a thread, saw a few dumb comments, and replied to them all in a row because I could no longer bite my tongue. When people make ridiculous comments, I have a habit of calling them out. Just like I am going to say that you are making ridiculous assertions that a standardized test is an indicator of general intelligence, and.... "a PREDICTOR of cognitive functioning???" LOL! Spoken like a person who truly has no idea what cognitive functioning is. Seriously, what studies showed SATs to actually predict cognitive functioning? Please find another picture to post since clearly you aren't capable of making an actual legitimate argument.

Ah man, I was having fun too. Some people take themselve too seriously.

N4P if it's any consolation to you, I do not have a very good SAT score, nor did I do real well on the GRE. My GPA has not been that high (except at AMU) and there are not many who would accuse me of being a smart person.

I, wrongly, assume that people can take some cantankerous razzing from me-it's my ONLY fault. I tend to not get my panties in a bunch over many things and (incorrectly) think most people share that same ability to shrug their shoulders.

    Good night everyone!

Figured I'd come along to perform a public service by summarizing the last four pages for the new reader:

    1. Group one: Stupid people who did drugs and alcohol in high school become teachers to keep having the summer off.
    2. Group two: No, smart people who don't want to work hard during the summer also become teachers.
    3. Point one: Education degrees aren't as rigorous as business degrees according to business degree people
    4. Point two: People with education degrees come forth with horror stories about education degrees.

-- At this point we have lots of statements that bear no value like statistics course comparisons and how education people have taken the GMAT (why would they?) and done crappy or median --

    5. Result one: A poster got an inguinal hernia over the situation and the resultant diahhrea of the keyboard.
    6. Result two: A moderator asked nicely for him to STFU.

There, all done. If you don't want to read my whole post, just focus on the bolded lines. It's how I got through most of my lit classes by reading ahead. :)
