People with education degrees looked upon with scorn? Not just DL but B&M too.

    OK, I confess, in terms of difficulty, my degree/diploma in:

    *Diploma in Fitness & Exercise < Certificate in EMT Studies < AA in Bible < *BA in Sociology/Religion <* MA in Counseling < MDiv (Alternative Cerftificate) <* MAIS in English/Literature < *MS in Psychology/Counseling <* PhD in Counseling < Masters in Business (MBA - accounting concentration) < BS in Accounting.
    * = online

    Education courses included in the above: 1 Ed. Styx in the MBA; 4 Educ or Ed Psych courses in the MS Psychology; and I am not sure how to rate the English/Literature - the courses may very well be Education but they certainly were not easy.

    Psydoc, your post is interesting but not very clear.

    Was he in the education department? LOL. Don't shoot the messenger. I was just passing on what a graduate of the program said!

    UF is known as a party school here in Florida.

    Silly me, here I had thought that the University of Miami held that honor.

    I’m not sure that solid academics and “social atmosphere” are mutually exclusive-look at U.W.-Madison.

    As this thread loses momentum, as the OP, I wanted to give my opinion on the idea that education degrees are not as rigorous as other degrees. It may be true that education degrees are less rigorous than a few other degrees and it may not be true; I'm not sure about that. However, even if it is true, who cares? Does anyone here with an education master's or doctorate really care if you are not considered on par with a PhD in particle physics or a medical doctor? I know I don't.

    I compare it to the NBA. I wouldn't mind being the lowest ranked player on the NBA, would you? Who cares if I'm not Kobe? I would still be in the NBA and I would be proud. Similarly, when I finish my EdD, I will not be whining that the degree is not as highly regarded as some other; I will be extremely proud to be included in the list of those who have risen to their fullest educational potential.

    But the thread, or at least the thread title, isn't about whether education is a "less academic" major. It's about whether there is a PERCEPTION that it is less academic. Look at the thread title.

    So a guy in a faculty lounge bad-mouthing the Education faculty is relevant.
