I saw that Penn State hired an ex-FBI chief to head their internal investigation. Basically he is going to run interference on the active criminal investigations (I'm betting) in order to protect the school (and likely other faculty). Granted this is only my opinion, but I’m thinking the guy was hired to pull political favors and use his insider contacts and knowledge…makes me wonder how effective he will be and what else will come to light over the next few months.

Oh in response to Kizmet...JoePa is scum even on a good day. I personally think he's more than just scum but a criminal and I hope he takes his last breath in a jail cell...or a prison shower...while Sandusky whispers sweet nothings into his ear. :)

No one deserves to be, and every one being deserves our protection from being, sexually assaulted. This includes prisoners.

Let's not forget that what Sandusky is alleged to have done - and yes, in my rough personal working model of the world, I expect he did it :( - is to prey on children in some trouble, who he got to know by being well-positioned in his nonprofit agency purportedly working for children.

An "at-risk" kid sent to The Second Mile, or to their local church, is, not always but often, a step away from a kid or young adult sent to juvie or jail themselves.

And what's abhorrent to us in one context should also be abhorrent in the other.

I know that kind of laughing about prison rape in an eye-for-an-eye way, or as a stock, throwaway joke or plot point not given much thought, certainly doesn't constitute direct support for, say, a wayward kid sent to juvie for one bad decision being raped by a better-placed person there. We're suffused in the idea prison rape is normal or funny in network sitcoms and dramas and everyday jokes.

But does it stand up to the culture that enables just the sort of thing Sandusky is alleged to have done?

Just something for people to think about.

I agree 100% with you and please do not mistake my frustrated and sarcastic comment as being my actual "belief" on rape of any sort, rather an insensitive joke (complete with irony).

No personal calling out intended! Just asking everyone reading to think about these things.

And so it starts...the first lawsuit in the Penn State scandal rolls out The Associated Press: 1st Penn State abuse suit comes from new accuser

My question is, why is he only suing for "tens of thousands of dollars"? I'm not sure what child rape is worth these days in damages, but I'm thinking it'd be at least a 2 digit figure with at least 6 zeros behind it.

I have to laugh at the fact that most people will have no clue why I said this, given that the context is in a different thread. I must do that fairly often

Back on topic: I say, throw the book, the anvil and the iron at anyone who knowingly let that [expletive worse than exists in English] turn children into victims.
