Oh....I can't even believe it, OMG I hate to admit it.... I'm in my last semester, gearing up to do my thesis (afraid as hell but that's something for another day) and I caught myself degree-searching! I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't need another friggin degree. I really don't need any more to do, and I'm out of money. Seriously, I don't know what's happening... Somebody zap my keyboard if I check HES course schedule archives. I need help.

I had to respond to your post. I know the feeling once you complete a degree and have been in college for a very long time..you think ok what next? I have completed my Ed.D and I was tempted to try for a graduate certificate in another area but decided against it, as I have enough education at the moment. I have also filled up my time adjunct teaching and I quickly forgot about that graduate certificate I thought I needed.

Higher education can (notice I said "can," not that it must) become addictive.

Give me a break! You have been around long enough to know that this was going to happen!

It's a sickness to which there is no cure. I'm attending counseling. Randell is a poster child.

You should go to The Extension School at Harvard and do this:

And just like that, you are on your way to a new degree!:tongue1::banana:

Interesting..... there might be a counseling degree that offers a specialization in distance learning degree addiction. I have 4 grad credits in psych, maybe they take transfer credit?

LOL well.... HES might be next, but it can't be "right now next." since I have to find a job :) Maybe that'll be a good distraction, maybe even offer up some $ for education. Thanks for the laughs everyone. And I'm going to go do that dance with the money thing just for the hell of it. Have a great weekend everyone!:drive:

I know how you feel. I am set to finish my degree at HES next Spring, and I am already thinking about what to do next. Normally, by the middle of the semester (sometime around October for the fall semester and late March for the Spring semester) I am so overloaded that the thought of going for another degree seems absurd. However, within 3 weeks of a semester ending I am back to thinking about what to do next.

It is kind of strange, because another degree (certainly another masters degree) really won't boost my income significantly. The doctorate might be a good choice, but after seeing what my mom went through to get her PhD, it is not something that I take lightly.

Right now, probably the best choice would be to pick up a certificate in accountancy from LSU or UNA. That would complement my degree nicely, and has a MUCH more flexible schedule than I am used to at HES. Then again, there are still a ton of MOOC's from Coursera and Udacity that I really want to do, but haven't had the time because of school. We shall see.

So I had my first lab session for HES General Chemistry, with a group very largely made up of pre-health students, a few weeks ago.

To make a point about chemistry the Teaching Fellow asked the room, "Does anybody here cook?"

Now this is an nontraditional, older-skewing, and also gender-balanced group, and these days everyone's a foodie. Still, no one was confident enough to volunteer that they themselves cook.

Clearly we need people exactly like you here. (And also more people doing work like this: Just What The Doctor Ordered: Med Students Team With Chefs. Seems like another good school there too, Johnson & Wales. :) )

Maybe you should look into a doctoral program that will pay you to go to school. Texas Tech and Boise State University offer distance assistantships.

Hmm, there's some irony there. A degree specializing in counseling distance learning addicts...and you earn the degree via distance learning. Where do I sign up?

In the past there's been discussion of creating a DL 12 step forum but then we realized
WE WANT PEOPLE TO BE ADDICTED:yup:

At the risk of jinxing myself, I'm just going to nod my head and say "uh-huh, cool link." But I'm intimately aware of the developing relationship between J&W and at least 1 med school. They currently offer a BA in Culinary Nutrition but have expanded a bit and are starting a masters in Culinary Nutrition. Food + evidence based medicine. My thesis is on culinary nutrition education. I hope to be connected with that program in one way or another within the year.

    Good luck!

Yeah, sorry to tell you this, but from my own experiences, NOPE. I am always looking, but never getting to the point of actually following through with something. I swear since I've been a member here, I've considered changing careers about 5 different times. One day I keep telling myself, I'll go after something in nursing/medicine, but alas I don't think it's meant to be.....yet. :yup:

I hear you, but I'm easily obsessed, so if I can get into the job I have my sights on, that will keep me peddling for a while. And yeah, come to think of it, it IS time for you to get into medicine! :)

Gawd I'd love to say something snappy, but I think everyone here on degreeinfo has felt the same way in some form or fashion. . .
