And fries. It's now an absolute staple in English Canada too.

No. Gravy and (non-fried) cheese curds - over French fries. Keeps cardiologists fully employed.

I've travelled in Quebec multi-times and honestly - I've NEVER had a sub-par restaurant meal there. I don't think a "bad" restaurant would last a week. Even in very small towns. I once stopped in the small town of Sullivan, near Val d'Or. One restaurant. Superb!
The lettuce etc. in my salad seemed fresher than I usually got back home. And the restaurant staff were WAY nicer.

I have to admit, it's entertaining to see how far afield we get from a thread's original topic.

Right. that's the end of it, then. Get back to the rowers' benches everyone - and pick up those oars.

That's a great story about your car being one of eight cars being broken into. Thank you much for sharing!

As an attempt to better explain my post. Here's what I was responding to.

Lerner's blanket statement is false. I admit some laziness on my part in responding to it. I used the first thing that popped up in my Google search. Perhaps this on might be better?

Here's the NYC statistics over the past 23 years for the 7 major crime statistics. Five of the major crimes are down. Two, felony assault and grand larceny, are about the same.

Homeowners score victory against squatters in New York after landlord handcuffed in $1M home heist
The "optics" of a homeowner handcuffed after changing the locks on a squatter in her Queens home worth $1 million pushed New York lawmakers to enact a harsh new law to protect property owners, a real estate attorney told Fox News Digital.

A portion of New York's 2024 state budget agreement, signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul Monday, specifically excludes squatters from tenant protections under state law.

The language defines a squatter as someone staying on a property without permission from its owner or the owner's representative. This wording, lawmakers said, will make it easier for police to intervene in squatting cases, sparing homeowners months or even years in housing court.

Real estate lawyer Michael Romer told Fox News Digital the case of Brian Rodriguez pushed lawmakers "over the finish line" to pass anti-squatter legislation. Rodriguez had allegedly commandeered and subletted a home in Queens and summoned police to detain owner Adele Andaloro after she tried to change the locks.
