    Enrolled in Trinity

With Trinity being a candidate with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, I have enrolled in their Doctor of Religious Studies program. My area of concentration will be conflict management.

I know Trinity has received major criticism over the years and, rightly so. But they have been in the process, during the last six or so years, of developing a first rate seminary with top notch faculty, faculty far superior than those on staff at American Christian College and Seminary.

A number of currently accredited schools (ACCS, LRS, Faith Evangelical Lutheran, Touro, Union, Capella, etc.) have been criticized by some on DL forums prior to accreditation.

Touro, Union, and ACCS are currently in some difficulty with their accreditors or the state in which they operate or the federal government, or all three, from what I have read.

So, Trinity looks pretty good at this point. It looks very certain Trinity will be accredited within two years.

Trinity is accredited by the National Association of Private, Nontraditional Schools and Colleges.

While not an agency recognized by the federal government, all agree NAPNSC is a legitimate, serious accrediting agency that will reapply this year for federal government recognition.

Should Trinity make NCA accreditation, a degree from there could possibly carry more weight than a South African degree or one from an institution accredited by TRACS.

Trinity will afford me the opportunity to engage in course work with a major writing project in a year to a year and a half. The Free State was a dissertation only Ph.D. and, as I have stated, I am tired of engaging in research and writing papers.

    Well, back to CCHS studies.

Sorry, this should have said "Th.D."

    Also, this

was not meant to imply a Trinity degree, per se could carry more weight but an RA degree might.

Congratulations, Jimmy, on your enrollment in Trinity's DRS program. I think your area of study (conflict management) will be beneficial here at DegreeInfo--since there is always a bit of conflict to manage.............;)

What Rich and Charles have posted is consistent -- i.e. that the main hurdle with SACS was the number of full-time faculty. Charles's post indicated that AMU was waiting until the university was sufficiently established before bringing on more full-time faculty. The move to W.Va suggests that AMU decided that the addition of enough full-time faculty to meet SACS requirement was not the most effective approach.

    Thanks, Oxpecker.

    Hi Ike,

The purpose of my initial post in this tread was just to say that AMU had in fact previously applied to SACS for regional accreditation.

As I read it, Rich makes no implication that AMU's statement regarding its SACS application is false.

    Hi Charles,

Of course they sought RA from SACS as you said but the intent of my statements on Page 2 of this thread was to buttress the fact that schools often choose to move to NCA jurisdiction if they believe that they will never receive accreditation in their region of origin.

I never said AMU applied to SACS. I don't know whether or not they ever did.
