Ummm... Bill Clinton acknowledged the existence of Area 51 when he was president.

Anyway, I can't choose one. It's actually a bit of a hobby of mine to read up on conspiracy theories- the more outlandish, the better. I'll give you two.

    1) The 9/11 No Planes theory. The only thing good that came out of that awful day is the endless hours of entertainment to be enjoyed reading and listening to these VERY SERIOUS people concoct wildly baseless explanations for how everyone saw nonexistent planes on that day. One sub-theory is that there were no victims, either.

    2) The lunar landing hoax conspiracy. I love it for two reasons. One, because the "evidence" for this theory borders on no-planes lunacy and two, because there's a part of me that thinks it might be true despite the available evidence indicating otherwise. Yeah, I know- I'm sounding like I'm contradicting myself. I know the theorists' arguments are wrong, but I STILL think that the whole thing could have been faked and covered up and we wouldn't know the difference either way- no matter how potent Buzz Aldrin's right hook may be.

I like the one I got in an email. The writer revealed that certain universities, not named, but to which only he had access, had some "surplus" Doctorates they had to award, because they'd lose their prestigious accreditation if their numbers weren't good enough.

I had been selected as one of those worthy of such an award. All I had to do was give my credit card info and authorization for a $1000 fee to a site in Nigeria. I respectfully declined.

My favorite one is that a shadowy government agency is clandestinely using advanced technology to spy on nearly everyone in the world.

These are supposed to be crazy theories. Not reality.

No one has even mentioned the Illuminatti or the Bildergerg Group. Not to mention the Templars and PLEASE, don't even get me into the Yakuza and the Tong. Speaking of which, have y'all been following the Whitey Bulger trial?

My favorite conspiracy theory is that Shrub was the mastermind behind 9/11.

How about the Newtown school massacre as a hoax staged by the Obama administration to gain sympathy for the President when he went on TV holding a SANDY Hook child on his lap. I just read in the Chronicle of Higher Education that this is a widespread belief among the Birthers and their kin.

I, personally, enjoy how after every single U.S. presidential election there is some segment of the population which insists that the incoming president is going to cancel all future elections and institute a dictatorship.

I ran into a woman who was getting an expedited passport "just in case McCain won" so she could flee before he instituted martial law.

I ran into another guy some years ago who went to Wal-Mart and bought all of the ammunition he could so he could bury it in his back yard for when "Obama came for the guns."

It's a sort of crazy that transcends party lines. It also makes me think I need to talk to fewer people.
