Here are a few general observations:
    • The novelty of getting non-traditional degrees is no longer shocking or unorthodox. It's common, especially for full-time working adults.
    • Many of those who "stuck-around degreeinfo.com" eventually finished their degrees. Now what? Why hang around a forum that discusses degrees? They either leave to pursue non-educational endeavors -- or they stay at degreeinfo.com and start posting in the "politics" section. LOL ;) o_O
    • This thread is a microcosm of United States politics. It's extraordinarily divisive, but it's also reality. And in reality, it's no worse than it was in years past. Politics remains the same, just as human nature has remained the same since the fall of Adam and Eve. Nothing has changed. It can be ugly or kumbaya or a slug fest or all of the above.
    • It is what it is. :)

    He's a thread I started on the Moderators forum. It's dated 01-08-2015

    1. Once upon a time distance learning was little known and poorly understood. Some people were aware of Phoenix because of their advertising but often people would enroll at Phoenix not knowing that there was a less expensive (and perhaps higher quality) program in their own area. Now DL programs have grown both in numbers and in popularity. The stigma of an online degree has essentially vanished as most students take some form of distance learning classes even if they are in residential programs. There are very few interests that can't be served by US programs and people have even realized that non-US degrees are sometimes more diverse and generally well received. It appears that distance learning has completed an evolutionary step and while there's certainly more to come it has become increasingly clear that we at DegreeInfo have not really kept pace. The main function that we have been serving is to direct people to programs that are relevant to their needs and interests. Our archives are full of references to hundreds, maybe thousands of different programs and while people sometimes use the archives to research options, increasingly people don't even need to do this. Google does a very good job, as we all know. It might not uncover every available program of interest to an individual but most people are able to find what they want without us. I'm wondering if we are approaching the end of our real usefulness. If there's any truth to that the question is, what is the next evolutionary step for DegreeInfo?

What I saw then was a handful of people sniping each other. When I looked in.

Nothing has changed and it seems to be that way at all forums (not just here). It's human nature run amok.

How unsurprising that Ben Garrison considers the #MeToo movement to be divisive.
