Some years ago, there was a thread about a paternity fraud case in the Off Topics sub-forum of this very board. The essence of it was that there was a guy going through a divorce and in the process of the divorce it was discovered that his son was not really his. The Supreme Court of Florida ruled that was a bit too late in finding this out and so he ended up owing child support for a bastard step-child.

The proper time to do that would be when the child is born. Once a man's name goes on the birth certificate, it is damn near impossible to get it off.

The law is weird, once you sign the birth certificate...child is y our regardless. Some states are nicer, when you're married and the new born is not your. Your name is automatically in the birth certificate. I knew a couple who had 4 kids, and he was not in the birth certificate. They lived together, but everything under government expenses from housing, medicaid, welfare, and foodstamps. I did not know how to manage to lie to the Government. But their situation is not rare at all.

Yeah - but I bet they'd know how to lie to you, any time they needed to!
