If you want people to be convinced that you are right then you should consider using facts in your argument, not just opinions.

Yes, that was my favorite jab too. There are some for-profits that deserve the bad reputation and derisive jokes, then there are others, like Sullivan, that improve the reputation of for-profit schools. I am always impressed by you posts suggesting how careful your administration is with protecting the academic integrity of your school.

I disagree. What AUTiger00 said is right by virtue of the fact that AUTiger00 was the one who said it. When one has a pattern of being on the winning side of the "Are you AUTiger00 or are you not?" debate, the rest of us should just concede that his beliefs are invariably, indisputably, fact.

Sometimes innocent remarks bring out the worst reactions in people around here, lol.

I learned some time ago that the for-profit topic is one that incites a lot of emotion. Like I previously stated, I admit to hold a guarded stance toward for-profit education. I am starting to realize that all of them are not the devil, based on the testimony of a few individuals here that I have learned to respect.

Time will tell if the industry begins to self regulate, which wouldn't be a bad idea IMO, so the good schools can shine and set forth the best example for the entire community of for-profit schools. Unfortunately, the recent mistakes and lapses in judgment by a few are devastating the entire field of for-profit education.

I saw that; I was just defending someone's right to post their opinion in the thread I started. You're being very defensive, but not really adding much to the conversation. Maybe you should sit this one out.

I have better things to do with my day then convince people on a message board whether I am right or wrong. I'll tell you what, I'll put my resume up against someone with the simlar work experience to mine and the exact same credentials from a for-profit school. We'll see who the employers calls first.
If you follow, oh I don't know, the news and current events then you have to know that for profit schools are getting demonized in the media on a regular basis. I don't have statistics to back it up, but I can provide you with a long list of recently published media reports to support my claim. It's common sense, use some.

AUTiger00 and I have a history of post-to-post combat on DI, but I must agree with him here.

But, to be fair, AUTiger00's credentials would probably trump the credentials of most holders of non-profit degrees.

I think it is best to compare "apples to apples." I don't think anyone in their right mind would attempt to equate a for-profit school with major research universities and elite liberal arts colleges.

The best comparisons, IMO, are between for-profits and smaller, teaching-focused, regional colleges in the bottom tier of rankings. IMO, some (perhaps many) for-profits are comparable in outcomes to these kinds of institutions.

That being said, I think the issue is more complex than simply "for-profit" vs. "non profit." A campus-based for-profit likely wouldn't have as much negative stigma as an online-only for-profit.

Agree. I chose AMU because I think it is one of the better for-profit online schools. In addition to great faculty, tuition is reasonable and they accept NA credits and degrees.

Wow, Stefan coming to my aid!?! I agree with what you said here with the exception of the last part. University of Phoenix isn't online only and I feel it takes the brunt of the media attacks.

I could back up Dr. Pina and point out how he is right and all...but a picture is worth a thousand words. (I had some free time this morning)

For those squinting at the legal disclaimer, my apologies...it says "*Please note that the above statement is not a legally binding contract and that actual student/professor interaction may vary based upon that professor’s actual inclination to be less self serving or otherwise perform a job that they are under no explicit or implied obligation to perform. We like to think our professors are primarily employed to provide research utilizing the efforts of the students themselves to do the actual work while the professors take the credit. Any misunderstandings or disagreements will be entirely the student’s fault and no legal means of recourse will be made available. In fact if you’re reading this disclaimer, you’ve probably put too much thought into this in the first place and are most likely a trouble maker, we suggest a different school. This flier was made using student labor…cheaper than slave labor, none of the guilt."

and for those who can read Latin, again, my apologies :)

:p See, I'm not all bad.

Good point. I should have clarified. I intended to refer to for-profit universities with a main, residential campus as the primary locus of instruction.

Phoenix has campuses but not in the traditional, residential sense.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Your education is from the top schools so of course it would shine over for-profits and 99% of the non-profits (but you already know that). BUT, will you really get called first? From a quality perspective: hell yeah...from a "can we afford this guy?" perspective: maybe not. It comes down to the type of position and what they want and want to pay for.

Touche. MC, while you were clearly taking a jab at me, I laughed my ass off at this.
