Based on our previous discussions on TECH and other Mexican universities, I had thought that Mexico simply didn't do propio degrees. @Johann and many others had pointed out the necessity of having RVOE for each and every program.

From a quick search, it doesn't appear that CLEA's programs have RVOE. So what then does it mean that it is a 'recognized online Mexican school'? I'm not trying to be critical but am simply trying to tease out the details here.

Mexico DOES have propios. I found this out - I think - in the TECH thread - I believe it's sec. 58 of their Higher Education Act. I had to plow through it to settle the matter, when somebody said "no propios in Mexico" - and someone else said there were. Anything from an approved University without an RVOE is a propio. Same deal as Spain.

I'm OK with ALL of that. Sounds reasonable to me.

They sure have. My silly little rhyme applied to the old days. :) But some of the propio vendors, as Mac Juli pointed out, are still in that old groove.

Fascinating! So then officially, even those RVOE-less, English-language TECH degrees would still be legal (but unaccredited) in Mexico?

As for CLEA, I wonder how this works via Mastercursos and CLEA Spain? Do they need some kind of additional recognition from authorities in Spain? Is CLEA also a registered university in Spain?

So many questions, so little time!

I don't see why they'd not be. But Maybe RFValve could chime in. He said something about Azteca offering degrees where the Spanish versions were RVOE and the English versions weren't. I think they were still legit as propios, but I'm not sure. RFValve could tell us.

    @RFValve ¡Ayudame por favor! :)

VERY easy lookup. I just put "Universidad CLEA España" in the browser to see, and up it came. Registered in Mexico, Spain and Colombia.
Here it is. https://www.uniclea.es/portal/ So yeah, I'm sure they have what they need to do what they do with masstercursos, no problem. Doesn't take much search-fu to find that.

A quick note for @Johann and any others following along. While browsing through the Masters programs at MasterCursos.com, I took a closer look at the sample diploma certificates they issue.

There are two interesting things of note here. Firstly, in the dark box at the bottom of the certificate, the text explicitly states that this is a titulo propio issued by CLEA. Secondly in the bottom right corner, the text states that CLEA University is registered as an 'Institution of Higher Learning' with the SEP and even provides the registration number. I'm no expert on Mexican education law, but these are both positive signs in my book.

So for just under 200 Euro, you can get a titulo propio degree from a registered Mexican university. Not too bad!

Yeah, and the diploma is valid at a number of Latin American Universities in a consortium named for King Alfonso III The Great. That's in the fine print in the dark area too. Bonus!

And your titulo propio is technically from a University registered in Spain, Mexico and Colombia. A three-bagger for 200 Euro!
¡Esta es una mina de oro! (This is a gold mine!) :)

And I think that sample diploma looks very nice, too. I'm going to check them out. I'm sure they've got something for me... A bit (or a lot) of everything. My kind of school...

Besides MasterCursos, have you done any other 'foreign language' degrees? If so, which other languages, from which universities, via which providers or sites?

We're all curious to know more!

My wife has a funny little habit of saying, whenever we go by a university, "You could teach there." Ha-ha. As if there was a university anywhere who would have me.

One day, we were walking in a tour group and came by the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. My wife tossed in her usual contribution, which I pooh-poohed with, "I don't speak Dutch." Our tour guide--a lovely person named Loos--looked back at me, glared, and said, "They teach in English!" I grinned sheepishly and shut up. And no, I never did teach there. :(

I took their course to become an accreditation evaluator. (I never asked to be one, though.) Things have not changed in terms of what DEAC expects its schools' curricula to look like and do.

CLEA stands for Colegio Latinoamericano de Educacion Avanzada. If you do a search, it is listed as a recognized degree granting institution (link below). The granted degrees are propio degrees that means that are not recognized officially but the school is recognized.

This means that the diploma is valid for university credits but it is not officially recognized in Mexico. These are meant to be just CV boosters that come with a degree that you can claim to be valid but not official.

Mainly in Spanish. CLEA was the only degree program but I have completed certificates from European University Miguel Cervantes, Nebrija University and Isabel 1. Most providers discussed here grant degrees from these schools. There are some schools in Costa Rica like the University of San Juan that grant propio degrees. Some people in this group are following Azteca and University of Central Nicaragua degrees. None of these degrees are top schools and propio degrees sometimes recognized only as credit. ECE in the US recognizes propio degrees as credits and others do. Some schools are black listed with WES US like Azteca and Central Nicaragua but not the Spanish schools mentioned or CLEA Mexico but so sure if they can accept them as degrees or just credits.

Yes, basically you are buying a nice diploma to frame and it is a degree but not officially recognized one as stated in the diploma. The Mexican law allows schools to grant degrees as long as they state that they are not officially recognized but again, it can be a nice thing to hang in your office with lots of seals, signature and codes so it makes a nice diploma to show up.

Wow. Leiden! Long history - great school - many discoveries. That's where the linguistic connection beween Roma (Gypsies) and India was discovered, in the 18th century. A Hungarian, studying there, found he was able to converse with Indian students, using his knowledge of Romani - I believe he knew Romani because his father employed Roma on his estate.

    Story here: https://openthemagazine.com/art-culture/the-gypsy-chronicles/

I've had a 50+ year interest in Roma. At any one time we have maybe 30,000 in Canada. Maybe ten times that in the US. My light still goes on when anyone talks about Leiden. :)
